We will create something like this..

Jefferson Park and the Grant Road Coalition have for four years advocated for a Linear Park from Park to Santa Rita, on the lots scraped by the Grant Road Project. Finally, we have a plan!
Where is the money? Thank you for voting for the 407 Bond. It allots $225,000 for the park. Thank you Ward III for getting our Linear Park in the bond package. That money, at the latest, will be here July, 2020. Immediately available is $48,000 to get us started from an agreement with the RTA/TDOT.
How will it look? In 2017 JPNA worked with the UA landscape class and six concepts were created.

Neighbors will work with TCB to finalize the design professionally.
What do neighbors want?
1) Water Harvesting, central pathway;
2) Visual mitigation, noise mitigation as possible;
3) A safe design that allows easy monitoring;
4) Historic signage that describes the area neighborhoods;
5) Other amenities to be considered at open meetings.
Who do we work with? Tucson Clean and Beautiful (TCB) will partner with us. JPNA will be creating an MOU and will form a steering committee and meetings will be open to the neighbors. Interested? Sign up at the JPNA annual meeting-see below.

More Great News for our Northern Border
|
The pedestrian ADA beepers at intersections should only be heard from 10ft away. Residents in Jefferson Park, 80 to 100 feet away, were hearing the beepers 24/7. Can anything be done? Answer "yes".
|
A chilly morning meeting yielded favorable results. Transportation, Ward III, and neighbors met with the manufacturers of the Audible Pedestrian Signals to learn what could be done about the excessively loud beeps that were disturbing our residents. It turns out that the manufacturer has many options programmed into those little boxes and ours were not set for a residential area. TDOT engineer said Tucson has only set beepers for commercial areas and now would set all beepers in residential areas according to the results of our Jefferson Park experiment. The following will occur:
1) A lower setting will be set for day time (50 dba). After a week residents will report back.
2) A much lower setting will be set for night
7pm to 6am (40dba). After a week residents will report back.
3) The signals at intersections from First to Park will be changed. When appropriate levels are reached all residential areas will receive the special noise leveling.
NOTE: The beeper sound will adjust to 5dba above the ambient noise level...i.e. if traffic is very loud it will increase volume, if traffic noise is low it will decrease volume. Thank you to all involved who are helping to resolve the issue and to those neighbors who doggedly pursued the problem. Many will benefit from the collective effort.

Door Hangers coming to your door.

Area Representatives will distribute the door hangers to all the Jefferson Park residences. The hangers have important contact information and an envelope for submitting your dues to the Jefferson Park Neighborhood Association.
Fifteen dollars continues to be the cost of membership.
Your dues help to support the efforts of the association. Thanks to the combined efforts of the non-profit "Friends of Jefferson Park" and the JPNA membership, our neighborhood has a web-site, an E-news, quarterly door hangers and quarterly meetings with snacks for all.
Thank you for your membership. A special thanks to the many volunteers who pass out door hangers, water the traffic circles, clean the Edison parklet, plant trees, work at fundraisers, maintain the Little Free Library, serve on the board, work with the city to maintain the Neighborhood Preservation Zone, work with Banner Hospital to maintain our southern border.

Promoting heat-related preparedness through community cohesion
The workshop includes:
1. Learn about managing heat illness.
2. Assess vulnerabilities and needs in heat-related emergencies.
3. Decide on actions for your neighborhood to take to be ready for a heat emergency without electricity.

Keeping our Historic Neighborhood

If your home is listed in the Jefferson Park Historic District as a contributing property, the JPNA and Friends of Jefferson Park, Inc. have created brochures to help you get the property tax break. A one-time mailing will be done in February to all who may qualify. New people to the neighborhood will be sent the information when the representative for that area notices new folks moving in. Keeping contributing properties qualified benefits the entire neighborhood.

Partners repay a portion of cost of materials based on a sliding scale and ability.

Police protocol for the homeless
|
|
When police are called about the homeless, there is a specific procedure they are to follow called the "Homeless Protocol". The Protocol is a step by step process that ensures that the Homeless camp occupants are offered the opportunity to receive social services, the ownership of the property is verified, and the camp is cleaned up and the occupants vacate the camp. As one of the first steps,
"Outreach Providers make contact with campers, to inform them of all resources available to assist with immediate and/or long-range needs", such as lodging, food, medical care, drug rehabilitation, etc. At our monthly AGI crime meeting, TPD officers have mentioned that there have even been times when they drove a Homeless person directly to services right then on first contact.
There is a Homeless Protocol Team that helps administer the steps of the protocol. It is comprised of representatives from TPD, Environmental Services, Housing and Community Development, Transportation, Community Homeless Advocates (Old Pueblo and Field Outreach), Code Enforcement, and Parks & Recreation. The Homeless Protocol applies to public property (i.e. City of Tucson property). Private property is handled by Code Enforcement
unless it is determined to be a police issue (i.e. there is fencing, posted signage forbidding trespassing, etc.). Police accompany Outreach Providers or get involved in the camp if occupants are aggressive or refuse to vacate from the camp.
