Tomorrow is the big day! Come out and get free school supplies, backpacks, uniforms, and more at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Recreation Center!
No registration is required- just bring a photo ID and remember that children must be present to receive supplies!
|
The Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center’s Board and staff would like to invite you to participate in this year’s Annual Back to School Festival on Friday, August 17, 2018, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM, at the MLK, Jr. Community Center, located at 2922 MLK Boulevard.
We believe that every child should begin the school year with the essential items needed to boost confidence, pride, and self-esteem. We are targeting elementary, middle, and high school students in economically disadvantaged families who need assistance with obtaining school supplies. In the past, we have donated backpacks and school supplies to more than 2,700 families.
This year we want to supersede that number by providing not only backpacks and school supplies to at least 3,500 families. Students will also have access to free haircuts and hairstyles, vendor information, and medical screenings and immunizations provided by the Foremost Family Health Center (with insurance). There will also be free snow cones and snacks provided and fun activities for children.
Donate!
We are currently accepting donations of the following items:
-School supplies for all grades (K-12)
-Backpacks
-Socks
-T-shirts & Underwear (for boys and girls of all sizes)
You can also make a monetary donation towards the purchase of items.
Be a Vendor!
We invite you to share in our commitment to making Dallas a City that appreciates and values education by supporting the Annual Back to School Festival. There is no fee associated with being a vendor, but vendors are required to provide school supplies to give away to an estimated 3,500 families. Items must reflect 2018-2019 DISD school supply lists.

I hope this note finds you in peace. How did your meditations go this week? Please feel free to contact me for all your questions or feedback.
There is so much power in the breath and in the present moment. Many of us do not realize how much energy we absorb and how it manifests within our being. We have the power to heal ourselves, and especially if you suffer with anxiety, it begins with the breath.
I know this firsthand. When I was small, I used to have anxiety attacks and so the doctor gave me pills to take. I didn't like the idea of the pills and I started trying to control my body when I would feel my heart racing, breaking out into a cold sweat, and finally either vomiting or passing out. I had it BAD! But one day, I decided to try to keep my heart from beating so fast by catching my breath and beginning to inhale and exhale really slow. I had no idea that this would help, but it did, and I can't say that those moments have stopped completely, but I respect the breath enough to know what to do during those moments. There is absolute power in letting go, in your breath, and in maximizing every moment that you are given. Thank you for joining me to take a moment of peace for yourself.
Be at Peace, Namaste, and Be Blessed Always!
I pray that this meditation serves the intentions to which is was created to restore your faith, balance, and a sense of peace and calmness.
Please "thumbs up" and subscribe to my Meditation You Tube page and videos if you haven't already.

TOP promotes social and economic equality for low to moderate income Texans through community and electoral organizing.
Texas is a big and diverse state, and considering the evolving social makeup and the widespread need for improvement in areas of health care, poverty, and education, community organizing has never been more important.

*Texas has the 5th highest poverty rate in the country.
*Texas has a high school dropout rate over 50% in urban areas and more than double the national average.
|
