Meeting called to order by President Rachel Toomey.
Attendance: Total 32, members 27, guests 2- Linda Petrik's granddaughter Lily and James, guest of speaker. 3 other Kiwanians; Bob Kemper from N.C. and the Boardman's, Dick & Julie from Iowa.
Nice to have member and speaker James Wineinger with us today. Nice to have Nancy and Ian Nelson and Bob Adamski with us today too.
50/50 winner was Harris Segel. Anyone can participate and receive the instant winnings for the day but only club members have a chance to pull for the ace of hearts if their ticket is drawn.
Sheriff Lindsey Lenhart collected happy and hopeful dollars for : Happy New Year, our club success, new designed website (Harris), to Todd from Barbara H for the supplies for Humane Society for Builders Club, Rachel's daughter Sadie is a year old, Steve thank you to Rachel, good to see everyone especially Nancy doing well, Luvy Bear is on hold but in 4.5 years they have distributed 10,500 bears!
Many media articles were circulated about our BUG run and installation. Thanks Rachel for writing the PR releases and everyone who helped on social media.
Thank you notes: received cards from our servers (Vicki, Charmaine, Anthony), the MS support group and the family of Diane Connell. We also received a holiday card from All Children's Hospital.
Members provided comments on all our service projects in December. What a month!
DCM: First one of the year was hosted by the Cape Coral Club on January 2nd. 4 clubs represented. We heard from Governor Steve LeBlanc.
FL First Ladies project is YCPO focused--diaper drives by each club. His goals for our district are to improve (more members and take on another SLP) and have fun. FL Foundation representative for our division Bruce Boyd spoke and encouraged all to donate to FL Foundation where Emergency Grants are going out to help with Hurricane Michael recovery. Lindsey invited all clubs to join together for the March of Dimes Walk. She put flyers how to sign up on the tables. March of Dimes is endorsed and supported partner of Kiwanis International. Thank you for attending Liz Ross (her daughter Judith and fiance John also attended), Lindsey Lenhart, Todd Adams and Kim Berghs.
Reminders
Volunteers needed for our annual BUG Run/Walk. A sign up is going around. It's an early morning start time and there are many ways you can help. This has been our signature fundraiser for 11 years. The proceeds help us continue to serve more children.
Literacy Buddies: Your next book is due January 18th. If your "buddy" is at The Children's Learning Center at FSW, Rachel can drop off your book.
