Grace's Story
“I was panicked. I had relied on my husband for so much, but just like that, he turned on me. I felt like I was endlessly falling in a deep hole.”

Before Grace arrived at Calvary Women’s Services , she and her husband had just moved to DC. Her husband had gotten a new job. It was supposed to be a step up, but things changed quickly. Her husband began drinking again and became abusive.

Grace tried to support him, but one night in a violent fit of rage he threw her out. She didn’t know what to do. Battered, bruised, and with nowhere else to go, she was forced to stay at an emergency shelter.
Very quickly Grace realized that the shelter was not an environment where she could turn things around. Fortunately, she found Calvary.

Volunteer Spotlight: Sirisha Bonda
Sirisha Bonda is one of our dynamic double-role volunteers. She serves as an overnight volunteer and as a curriculum aid for our education programs. She came to us as part of the Service Never Sleeps fellows program. 

"I work in international development where I manage projects that help mitigate social injustices abroad. However... I wanted to be able to address social injustices in my local community as well."

Save the Date: Spring Cocktails for Calvary
Join us for signature cocktails and delicious hors d'oeuvres at the Spring edition of Cocktails for Calvary on March 14th. The event will take place at Baby Wale, a hip gastro-pub in DC's Mount Vernon Square. We’ll come together to celebrate women overcoming their homelessness.
This is a great opportunity to invite friends, family, coworkers or networks to learn more about Calvary’s mission and the women we serve. Tickets are $25 each. Purchase two or more tickets, and you'll receive a discount!
January Open House
You're invited to visit our facility on Good Hope Road! Join us on January 25th from 9am to 11am for an Open House at Calvary. Come see in person what makes Calvary so special, and hear inspiring stories about women at Calvary.

Groups and individuals are welcome. Guests will be led on a tour by a staff member. More information, including how to sign up, is available on the event page.
Volunteer Opportunities
Do you know someone interested in getting involved at Calvary? We are currently on the lookout for additional front-desk volunteers and for volunteers to help with our employment support program, Step Up DC.
