For last Sunday's Westchester UU worship we created a "quiet play" area in the sanctuary where children could enjoy simple activities while experiencing the words, music, and rituals of our faith. Meanwhile local youth got to know one another at a special breakfast. We have all come away gratified and re-energized. The New York legislature is called to consider 3 proposals to ban single use plastic bags. Some of the bans are arguably more effective than others, and incorporate what other municipalities have learned working with the same issue. Go to Riverkeeper.org for more information. : Lifting Up Westchester
For almost four decades Lifting Up Westchester has worked to permanently change the lives of our neighbors in crisis. Our collection will support services at the Open Arms shelter, which offers temporary housing for up to 38 homeless adult men. Open Arms provides more than a bed, shower, and meal; their guests receive support and encouragement to engage in recovery programs or employment services, as each man follows his own path to a better life.
