The Pastor's Notes
from the desk of Walter Cantwell

A special announcement was made during worship services on Sunday morning. Belin Memorial will be appointing a new Senior Minister, the Reverend Will Malambri. A second Associate Minister, Reverend Isaac Dusenbury, will also be joining the Belin staff.

Will serves as the Senior Minister of Central UMC in Florence, SC. Isaac works at Duke Hospital as a Chaplain Resident. Both individuals have expressed to me their excitement about joining the Belin family in June and meeting all of you. I am looking forward to being in ministry with both of them.

June will be bittersweet for me. Over the past three years, I have had the privilege of serving alongside Mike. He has been a mentor, an encourager, and a friend. Especially as of late, Mike has shared lessons with me: what he wished he had done or not done throughout his time in ministry. My three years with Mike have been a gift to me personally. It is hard to say "good-bye" but at the same time, I am also looking forward to what God has planned for Belin Memorial with the new pastoral appointments.

Mike has prepared the church for this very moment because he has been clear that he is ready for the next stage in life-retirement! He is looking forward to spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren, and I imagine he will continue traveling with fellow pilgrims to the Holy Land.

At a staff meeting a few weeks ago, Mike encouraged us to write to Will and Isaac. My mind went back to the months before I moved to Murrells Inlet. I remember receiving letters in the mail, informing me that you were praying for Christiana and me. Your words were simple reminders of that promise found in the Bible: The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged (Deuteronomy 31:8).

Please keep in your prayers: Will, his wife Sally, and their children, Mac and Annagray. Also, pray for Isaac and his wife Kate. These two families are beginning the process of leaving the places they know in order to start this new and amazing journey with Belin Memorial.

Finally, hold Mike and Betsy in your prayers. They have both given so much of their time and energy to serving Belin Memorial. Pray they will find peace and comfort as they head into retirement.

Now is the very moment for us to be a people of prayer, cherishing the promise of God's faithful presence in the midst of transitions.

In Christ,
