Please join us as we support a national community of attorneys, judges, social workers, CASAs, health professionals, and other children’s advocates at our 42nd National Child Welfare Law Conference. For
three days, this special community gathers to continue their education, improve their skills, and find
inspiration and renewed commitment to their work. Over 700 professionals from across the country attend NACC’s conference and our goal is to provide attendees a high-quality experience that motivates effective advocacy for children and families.

Online Red Book Training Course begins in March
|
We are proud to announce the spring session of our online Red Book Training Course. This course is designed to assist attendees in preparing for the Child Welfare Law Specialist (CWLS) examination. It can also serve as an overall review of dependency competency areas. The course will consist of seven webinars delivered over a period of 13 weeks, and all webinars are available for up to 6 months to watch and re-watch at your leisure. The material covered in the course is drawn from
Child Welfare Law and Practice: Representing Children, Parents, and State Agencies in Abuse, Neglect, and Dependency Cases
(3rd Edition) and an electronic copy of the Red Book is included.
NACC will be offering the Red Book Training Course twice annually, in the spring and the fall. Please consider including this course or a Red Book live training into your regular training schedule. Contact our team for information on discount packages for training, Red Books, and CWLS certification.

- The Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act (CAPTA) is up for reauthorization. NACC is advocating for an addition to the GAL provision that would include children’s right to legal representation, in addition to a lay GAL or CASA. We expect a bill to be introduced by spring of 2019. Do you have a story about how your legal advocacy made difference in a child’s case and life? We would love to hear from you about the impact lawyers have on dependency cases. If you have a story to share, please email Brooke Silverthorn at brooke.silverthorn@naccchildlaw.org.
- Starting in 2019, the NACC Every Kid Needs a Family workgroup is going to look at common barriers that prevent placement in families. The ultimate goal is to work on solutions to those barriers, whether it be proposing new laws or policies, or creating a toolkit with legal arguments and sample motions. To that end, we would love to hear from you. What are the major barriers in your state and/or jurisdiction? Do you have any ideas about what tools would help overcome those barriers? Guardian
Law Journal

NACC is expanding the content offered to its members through
The
Guardian
and other avenues, and would like to invite you to contribute. As your interest and time allow, we are looking for individuals to:
1. Share ideas for articles with us (e.g., send a link to a new legal development in your state, or tell us something you’d like to learn more about from a subject matter expert or fellow attorneys).
2. Join our
Guardian
reader panel, and agree to send brief responses to specific questions posed by NACC 1-2 times per month (e.g, sharing practice tips, resources you rely on).
3. Write or contribute to articles, or connect us to others who might be interested in doing so. (Currently we are looking for articles in the 1000-3500 word range, although will consider longer or shorter articles.)
4. Be interviewed for articles (to be written by NACC staff).

Call for Papers
- The Children's Legal Rights Journal is accepting submissions of articles for Volume 39 Issue 3, to be released summer 2019. The Journal welcomes submissions of 15-60 pages double spaced addressing issues of children's legal rights. Submissions will be accepted on a rolling basis, but priority will be given to those articles received by January 15, 2019. Please click here for more details.
