RISE Documentary Films to screen "The Devil We Know" |
|
RISE kicks off 2019 with a powerful film about how one synthetic chemical, used to make Teflon products, contaminated a community in West Virginia. But... it turns out that new research has exposed a broader dilemma: many Americans are affected by exposure to non-stick chemicals in food, water and consumer products. Join us as we try to understand what this all means and how to protect ourselves and our families.
The film screens at Mother Brook Community and Arts Center,
123 High Street,Dedham,
on January 15th.
A Reception starts at 6:30 pm with drinks and salads from SweetGreen. Film airs at 7:00 pm and a panel discussion will follow. Admission is free. More information can be found at www.risedocfilms.org.

REMOVAL OF SEVERAL TREES ON ST. PAUL'S PROPERTY |
|
On or about January 17th, we will be removing the tall white pine trees that line the St. Paul's driveway. After consulting with an arborist, St. Paul's Property Committee concluded that while our tall pines have the appearance of health, they are nearing the end of their natural life span. Were one or more of these trees to fall because of a weather event, the results could be devastating. The trees are of a size where the impact on the church building or the rectory would be serious to say the least. Obviously there are life safety issues to be considered, as well. A week before Christmas, near where the new playground is planned, a massive branch broke off one the white pines that border the church property, the result of high winds.
If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact Olivia Hurlock, the head of our Property Committee, Peter Gregory and Mary Jane Devins, our Wardens, or Melanie our Rector. We'd be happy to answer any questions you might have.

ST. PAUL'S BOOK CLUB
|
|
St. Paul's Book Club meets
Wednesday, February 6th
7:00 p.m. in the Rectory
Our next book will be:
Educated by Tara Westover
Born to survivalists in the mountains of Idaho, Tara Westover was seventeen the first time she set foot in a classroom. Her family was so isolated from mainstream society that there was no one to ensure the children received an education, and no one to intervene when one of Tara's older brothers became violent. When another brother got himself into college, Tara decided to try a new kind of life. Her quest for knowledge transformed her, taking her over oceans and across continents, to Harvard and to Cambridge University. Only then would she wonder if she'd traveled too far, if there was still a way home.

OPEN DATES FOR FLOWER MEMORIALS
|
|
Altar: 1/27, 2/3, 2/10, 2/17
Jane Clark Table: 1/27, 2/3, 2/10, 2/17. 2/24
Flowers are a symbol of life and joy. St. Paul's Flower Guild is a volunteer organization which happily trains interested people in the art of flower-arranging.
There are many reasons to give flowers on the altar or Jane Clarke Table. While most often people give flowers in memory of a loved one, there are many other reasons to give flower:
- To celebrate an anniversary
- In thanksgiving for a graduation
- In gratitude for an answered prayer
- To celebrate a birthday
- In gratitude for the blessings of your life
- To simply give thanks to God

We remember, O Lord, all those who have served in our Armed Forces and commend them to you for their bravery, their patriotism, and their honor. We ask that those who serve our country today may be kept in your everlasting love and that comfort and encouragement might be given to their families. We pray for peace and ask that your holy will might prevail among all people, and your name be exalted forever.
We pray for those who have died, especially Alyssa Katherine
Duncan, Ruth B. Duncan, and Lyman C. Duncan, in whose memory the altar flowers are given this week.
We pray for peace in the war-torn regions of our world and for all who have lost homes and loved ones due to violence.
