TIME TO CELEBRATE! PATH Intl. Member of the Month
Congratulations to Sue Adams, the second PATH Intl. Member of the month for March!

Sue Adams with horse

Sue Adams proudly declares she works for "Hearts Therapeutic Riding Center, Inc. in New Jersey.....Yeah!!" A PATH Intl. Life Member, Sue first joined the association in 1989 and has been a PATH Intl. Certified Advanced Therapeutic Riding Instructor since 1993. She also serves as faculty/evaluator for PATH Intl. instructor candidates.

Sue said her favorite thing about the EAAT community is that it's ever growing and everyone loves to network. Her first career was as an elementary school teacher, "...till kids came along!" She first learned about EAAT from a small, 2" x 3" article in a horse magazine about Sabastian Riding Associates, a PATH Intl. Center Member in Collegeville, PA. She was "bitten by the TR bug!"

Speaker Highlights
Dr. Haille Sheade, Overcoming Fear and Anxiety in EAAT Participants
This course offers equine-assisted activities and therapies (EAAT) facilitators an understanding of the role fear and anxiety play in participants' experience of EAAT. Learners will develop an understanding of the psychological and behavioral impacts of fear and anxiety, signs of fear and anxiety, common fears in EAAT, positive ways to cope with fearful behavior and calming strategies to overcome fear and anxiety.

Jochen Schleese, The 8 Myths of Saddle Fit
The presentation will go over the eight common saddle fit myths currently in the industry and how they affect, both positively and negatively, the overall health and well-being of the equine athlete. It also goes into detail on what constitutes a correct fit based on the anatomical requirements of both horse and rider, and the consequences normally seen when equipment is ill-fitting. The mission of Saddlefit 4 Life® has always been and continues to be to protect horse and rider from long term damage caused by ill fitting tack, through comprehensive education.

Trial Exams for the PATH Intl. CTRI Certification
PATH Intl. is excited to announce three additional trial exams for the PATH Intl. CTRI certification. The dates and locations for these trials are:
  • State University of New York College (SUNY Cobleskill, NY): April 4, 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. ET
  • PATH Intl. Region 10 conference (Colorado Springs, Colorado): May 3, 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. MT
  • PATH Intl. Region 4 conference (Augusta, Michigan): May 16, 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. ET
The purpose of the trial exams is to confirm that the PATH Intl. CTRI certification exam questions perform to expectations and to determine an appropriate cut score (passing score) for the exam. For security of the exam questions, the trial exams will be offered in written pen and pencil format, administered by a test administrator from Professional Testing, Inc. Participation can count for 2.5 Riding CR or 2.5 CE continuing education hours. Trial exam scores will NOT be recorded nor impact any certifications held or future certification applications. The exam questions will be scored with the sole purpose of analyzing question performance across all exams completed, NOT analyzing individual tester performance.

Contact Bret Maceyak to sign up for any of these trials. (Please specify in your email which date or location you wish to sign-up for.)

U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs Adaptive Sports Grant Equipment Purchasing Grant
Need new equipment to support your PATH International Equine Services for Heroes® veterans program? PATH Intl. Premier Accredited Centers are eligible to apply for the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs Adaptive Sports Grant equipment purchasing grant.

PATH Intl. is excited to announce this opportunity funded by the VA Adaptive Sports Grant. This grant will be available to eligible PATH Intl. Premier Accredited Centers that are looking to purchase equipment for their veterans and/or armed service members (VSM) programing. The funding is intended to subsidize equipment and/or supplies such as special ramps, wheelchair lifts, saddles, carriages, etc. It does not cover the cost of equines, and all equipment applications must be intended to support veterans at your program.

You can apply for the grant here. Applications close April 19, 2019. Questions or concerns can be addressed to Kristin Jacobsen.
Baseline Definition Resource Guide (Terminology) Initiative Update
As many of you know, PATH Intl. is leading an initiative with the goal of term definition consensus among the major stakeholders in the field of equine-assisted activities and therapies (EAAT).

Next month, a survey will be distributed to you, various EAAT stakeholders and interested individuals to understand how terms and definitions are understood and being used in the field. This data will be analyzed and used as a framework for discussion at a baseline definition summit to be held in July 2019.

Click here to read about the participants in the summit, representing a wide range of perspectives from the EAAT field. If you have any questions, please contact  Kathy Alm.
Coming Soon! Always Improving Technology for PATH Intl. Members
PATH Intl. is developing a new database to enhance the members' user experience. The PATH Intl. website links directly to a customer relationship management (CRM) system, which is the technology used to manage member relationships and interactions. Currently this database is where members manage their contact information, make purchases from the store and the tool that links those records to online directories seen on the website such as find a center and the member directory.

The new system, which is slated to launch in the next few months, will offer a friendlier user interface, ability to submit instructor compliance online and the ability to submit all center renewal requirements online in one setting. The member's profile page will even be customizable!

Click here for a sneak peek at the future member experience. Watch for more information soon!
