Where Love Begets Love

January 10, 2019

A Word from Rev. Paula+

Beloved Community,

This Sunday we celebrate Jesus' baptism on the feast day aptly called "The Baptism of Our Lord."  This is a day to celebrate baptism - Jesus' and our own.  Part of the celebration is the affirmation of our baptismal vows, which reminds us that baptism is more than just a ritual acknowledgement that we are cleansed from sin through Jesus' death and resurrection.  It is also the beginning of our shared, intentional ministry to love and care for all of God's people and creation.

This week's newsletter includes a couple of fun and faith-filled examples of how we go about living into the promises we make at baptism.  In addition to the ways we worship and our usual ministries, we are opening our doors on Martin Luther King Day and we will be formally celebrating our new ministry with Bishop Hughes on March 30th.  These are good and life-giving opportunities to grow our faith together and to celebrate our willingness to share it with others.

Peace & Blessings,
Paula+

Celebrating the Life and Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Wyoming Presbyterian Church is hosting its second annual Open House from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm.  This is a family-friendly event with the DREAM art project, a showing of the movie MARCH ON!,  drumming workshops with Ya'haya Kamate, and the Peace and Diversity Book Fair.

NEW this year!!!  We are opening our doors from 5:00 to 8:00 pm for prayer, reflection, and contemplation.  This is the flyer for our offering and we are getting a banner as well.  We'd love help getting the word out.  There are flyers on the ushers' table in the church.

ALSO new this year!!!  At Coffee Hour on January 20th, we will be decorating the luminary bags that will be used to highlight the entrance to the church on the 21st.  We'll provide the bags and the coloring materials.  You bring your willingness to have fun and help us to make our share of Millburn's MLK Day a reflection of our love for our neighbors.

The Bishop is coming!

to preside at the Celebration of New Ministry on March 30th at 2:00 pm.  This is our chance to publicly honor the call we have to share in the Good News of the Living God and the commitment we have made to each other.  This is more than a typical worship service.  The Bishop will be here.  We'll welcome others from the diocese and the larger community.  We'll have special music.  We'll share in the giving of symbolic gifts.  And we'll welcome our guests with the amazing St. Stephen's hospitality at a reception following the service.

We'll be gathering a small group of people to help with the planning of this event.  If you are interested in being a part of the ministry team, please let Rev. Paula or Maryalice Chech know.

A Reminder

The phone extensions have changed now that the parish office and rector's study are in the Education Building.  You can reach Doreen Schindler, Parish Administrator at x32.  Rev. Paula can be reached at x21.
