The Dorchester Media Center is happy to announce that we are ready to begin library book circulation for all our students, in-person and virtually. Although the book borrowing procedure is slightly different as students will not be visiting the media center as part of their school day, all students will continue to have access to our print books by making a request electronically from home.
Students & parents should follow the guidelines outlined here, which contain instructions on book searching procedure and a link to place an order for a book from our library.
Once a book request has been received, the staff form the Dorchester Media Center will:
Deliver the book to the student if attending school in-person.
If the student is home for remote instruction, the Dorchester Media Center staff will:
Place the book(s) in the book bin outside the Dorchester entrances (Grades 2 & 3 Upper Entrance bins, Grades K, 1, 4 & 5 Lower Entrance bins). The student's name will be marked on the bag containing the book(s).
Email student & parents that the books are ready to be picked-up.
Book Return
Students should place their returned library books in the appropriate basket in their classrooms. Books will be collected on Fridays.
All books will be quarantined within the media center for 72 hours to ensure safety.
Remote students should return all books in the same bin used for book pick-up. Students who are under quarantine should refrain from returning books until their quarantine period has ended.
Additionally, our school district has digital books available for all K-5 students to borrow through www.soraapp.com. Students should use their stu.woodcliff-lake.com Google account credentials to log in. Since this program is new to our district, we have digital books for the upper elementary grades mainly at this time but are hoping to add more for younger students in the future.
