Happy Spring, Old Donation!
It's hard to believe, but today is the first day of Spring. Hopefully the weather will start listening soon, and we'll have some warm and sunny days ahead.
With Spring tends to come a flurry of activity, and that certainly is true here. Tonight, our Wednesday night program will begin with supper at 6:00, and teaching starting promptly at 6:30. There will be no Eucharist tonight, because we have an excellent guest speaker, David Gortner, joining us from Virginia Seminary. David will talk to us more about the importance of identifying our own stories and finding empowerment to share them. You don't want to miss this program! Soup and salad will be provided by our St. Cecilia choir, featuring Max and Erma's Chicken Tortilla Soup (with a vegetarian option).
Friday will be our own Day School's 3rd Annual Art Auction. This is the biggest fundraiser of the year for them, and ALL proceeds go towards the Julia Tucker Scholarship Fund, which provides scholarships for children who would otherwise be unable to attend our school. Tickets are $10 and include an adult beverage, heavy hors d'oeuvres, and a raffle ticket. Beautiful art and gift baskets have been created by each class in the school, and local artists, including some of our own parishioners, have donated their artwork as well. I can't tell you enough what an excellent and well-planned event this is! Please come join us. Childcare is included if you purchase tickets in advance!
On Saturday, our Good News Commission, along with Fr. Bob, have put together a beautiful and thoughtful Lenten Retreat focused on music. We will look at different hymns, their melodies and lyrics, and reflect on their meaning and impact in our lives. Lunch is included, and promises to be delicious! Please sign up by calling the office.
On Sunday, I will be preaching at 8:00, 10:30, and 5:00; Fr. Bob will be in the Gathering. We continue to have two strong adult formation offerings, one led by Fr. Bob on the Book of Revelation, and another on Sitting in the Dark-understanding pain and how we can find God within it. This week, Scott Hetman will lead us through conversations based on reflections and video by Barbara Brown Taylor. In addition, I'll be headed to St. Stephen's in Norfolk at 2:30, to join the Mission of the Holy Spirit for their service and meal to follow. I invite any and all of you to join me!
This week is packed full of activity, but it is all so very good. Please come and be a part of it!
In Christ,
