Old Woodward Reconstruction Project Update - 4/27/18
As of 2 p.m. Friday, April 27, 2018, eastbound traffic on Maple at Old Woodward will be closed for the rest of the day due to a water main break. It is not known when eastbound traffic will resume, but crews are on scene making repairs.

It will be a productive weekend (Saturday, 4-28-18) and (Sunday, 4-29-18) as contractors will be working on the Old Woodward Reconstruction Project.

With 20 percent of the project now completed, crews will continue their work on water main installation as well as sewer and fiber optic work, so you can plan for next week.

On Tuesday, 5-1-18, crews are tentatively planning to begin making connections from the old water main service to the new water main system. The area that is planned to receive the first connection to the new water main will be north of Maple Road.

As noted, this work is tentatively planned to occur between 7:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. on Tuesday (5-1-18). Please watch for further updates on Monday (4-30-18) once details are finalized. When this work does occur early next week, it will require an anticipated, two-hour shutdown of water service so the switch from the old system to the new system can be made. The City appreciates your patience and understanding as it makes this necessary switch to the new water main system, part of the improvements that will enhance the underground infrastructure for years to come.

With nice weather in the forecast for this weekend, the City encourages you to support the merchants by visiting your favorite locations in downtown Birmingham and getting a first-hand look at the ongoing transformative construction work on Old Woodward. And, remember that parking in all five City parking structures is now free on weekends (Saturday as well as Sunday). Plus, you can also use one of the four, two hours free valet parking stations strategically located near the construction zone.
