Call for Volunteers in the ACE Program
diverse_volunteer_group.jpg
ACE (which stands for architecture, construction and engineering) is a national extra-curricular high school program. Locally, students from twelve different area high schools meet twice monthly after school to develop a theoretical project. Industry mentors provide expertise and guidance throughout the school year. The program culminates with an annual presentation of all the projects and scholarship awards.
We are honored that the administrators of ACE recognize the importance of the post construction lifecycle of a facility and as part of our Chapter's Outreach program (to expose potential future facilities managers to this career choice), we have partnered with the ACE Program.
As we develop this relationship with ACE, our involvement is solely with the El Camino High School in Oceanside. The students are planning to present a plan for a soccer stadium in the El Corazon area. Industry experts are desperately needed to come and present for 15-20 minutes to the students about your area of expertise - what you do, how you prepared for your job, what kind of projects you work on, etc. Meetings are every other Wednesday from 3-5 p.m. at the school.
Of particular interest at the moment is structural engineering, but facility managers, landscape architects, security consultants, transportation planners, interior designers/planners - all are needed! If you are interested in becoming an ACE mentor or being a one-time presenter, please contact Jolie Lucas at [email protected] to schedule a date.

Pricing Plans for Businesses Based on Time of Day

It's time to start thinking about energy differently. To support the statewide commitment to reliable and sustainable energy, time of use pricing plans are the current standard for business customers. These plans are based on both how much, and when, you use energy and offer you choices on how to better manage and control your costs.

Time of use pricing plans split the day into different time periods, on-peak and off-peak.  During peak hours, prices are higher as the demand for electricity increases. The cost to produce and deliver electricity also increases. By shifting energy use to off-peak times, you decrease the demand for energy, thus saving on energy costs.

Peak hours were previously from 11:00 to 6:00 PM The recent increase in use of renewable energy, primary solar, has shifted the hours of peak energy demand to 4:00 to 9:00 PM.  The shift is occurring because, as the sun goes down, production from solar drops.

The California Public Utilities Commission recently approved a seasonal change. The month of May more closely aligns with winter month data versus summer data. The new seasonal periods are:

Many of these changes depend on what pricing plan your business is on.  If you don't know what pricing plan you're on, you can find out by  visiting myaccount.sdge.com .
