April 27, 2018
Hi all,
From now until August, employees who have never been a member of NEA have the opportunity to participate in an EARLY ENROLLMENT program. These folks who may have been on the fence about deciding to join, can sign up now and not pay dues until September 10th. What do they get for their early enrollment membership? They get access to NEA member benefits. They do NOT get access to representation for disciplinary issues.
If your Local would like to participate in the Early Enrollment program, Region 3 can customize membership forms for your Local that show the dues payments (which would begin September 10, 2018) in monthly increments. For more information about Early Enrollment, contact me at [email protected].

Region 3 Learning Lab Participants Celebrate Success
Each school year new teachers start the life-long process of growing into the profession. This year several of these new teachers were offered a unique opportunity to be paired up with virtual coaches from throughout the United States.

April 14th marked the end-of-cycle celebration for this group. The teachers and virtual coaches, along with friends, and family members, all ventured out during our mid-April snow storm to gather in Sheboygan. One virtual coach came from as far away as San Francisco to connect with local participants. Dinner, drinks, and stories of the school year were shared with much laughter. The pairing of new teachers and virtual coaches agree that the process was rewarding and successful.

A bit more on the program: The Early Career Learning Labs is a program developed by the NEA and rolled out by WEAC Region 3. It is designed to support newer teachers through a blended program. Participants meet face-to-face at the beginning, midpoint, and end of cycle. During the online portion, participants are paired with Virtual Coaches, each a veteran teacher and adept at coaching. During this online sessions teachers and coaches work together to process and problem-solve teacher-selected issues within the profession.

Professional Development

Here at Region 3, we get lots of questions from teachers about the recent licensure changes. When and how can I report successful semesters of teaching? How much does a background check cost? How do I apply for the background check? The wheels seem to be turning slowly as the DPI has not yet finalized processes and procedures for these things.
