Florida Dental Association Prepares for Legislative Session
By Joe Anne Hart, FDA Chief Legislative Officer
Now that the 2018 elections are over, the Florida Dental Association (FDA) is preparing its legislative agenda for the 2019 Legislative Session. The FDA will take a comprehensive approach during session to address access to dental care. Florida's Action for Dental Health provides several initiatives that focus on increasing access to dental care for all Floridians. Once the FDA's legislative agenda is finalized, a detailed legislative issues sheet will be posted on the
FDA's website.
Educating newly elected legislators on the priorities of organized dentistry will be paramount for the upcoming session. Grassroots member involvement will be beneficial to moving forward proposed legislation supported by the FDA. Legislative contact dentists (LCD) serve as organized dentistry's first line of defense at the local level and are instrumental in developing relationships with legislators, as well as educating them on the importance of the FDA's priorities. To volunteer to serve as an LCD, please contact Legislative Assistant Courtney Thomas at 850.224.1089 or
[email protected].
Another way to become involved in advocating for the FDA's legislative priorities is to attend the 2019 Dentists' Day on the Hill (DDOH), scheduled for Tuesday, March 12, in Tallahassee, with a legislative briefing on Monday, March 11, at 6 p.m.
The FDA has a room block at the Doubletree by Hilton Tallahassee for the rate of $219. To book your room, please call 850.224.5000 and reference group code "AFD". Rooms for this event fill up quickly - so reserve your room today!
Additional information on specific legislative issues to be discussed during the legislative briefing on Monday, March 11, will be provided at a later date. Individuals who register for DDOH will receive email communication on information to help prepare you for your visit to Tallahassee. If you have any questions, please contact Governmental Affairs Liaison Alexandra Abboud at 850.224.1089 or
