Learn More About May Bond Issue

Milford School District has a 4.7 mill bond issue on the May 7, 2019 ballot.

The bond will:
  • build a middle school (grades 6-8) to replace the current Milford Junior High (grades 7-8);
  • add a new 1,000 seat auditorium to be shared by the new middle school and high school;
  • replace the HVAC and sections of the roof at the high school;
  • provide new learning spaces in the unrenovated portions of the high school;
  • replace several athletic facilities that are in poor condition; and
  • complete the stadium renovation.

We welcome you to see the junior high firsthand and learn more about our facility plans. An open house will be held at Milford Junior High School, 5735 Wolfpen-Pleasant Hill Road, on Wednesday, March 13, from 5-7 p.m. and again on Saturday, March 30, from 10 a.m.- noon.

The exact location of the new middle school will be identified once the design process begins and engineering studies occur, but it is anticipated that the new building will be located at the west end of the current practice fields located next to the stadium. A part of the building program will be adjusting Eagles Way to allow for improved traffic, site circulation, and parking.

Rising Educators Head to Nationals!
Students in Milford High School’s Teaching Professions Academy participated in the Educators Rising Ohio's conference on February 28-March 1 at Capital University. They participated in professional development and competed in events aimed at demonstrating their skills and knowledge related to the teaching profession. Twelve Milford students qualified for the Educator Rising National Competition in Dallas, Texas in June!

Pilot Internship Program Launched
In an effort to promote both career and college readiness, Milford High School has launched a new pilot internship program with Miami Township Fire Department and Lykins Oil company. Milford teachers Taryn Baker and Jimmy Carter have been working with the students and employers.

At Miami Township, four students are working with a mentor crew of firefighters for three hours each  week. Students will go through seven rotations which “shifts” with the crews and includes training exercises and joining the firefighters on emergency runs. At the end of the training, students will participate in the traditional physical challenge/firefighter confidence exercise.

“We are seeing a deficit in the available labor pool for people who are interested and qualified to work in public safety jobs like firefighting, EMS and law enforcement. This pilot internship program will hopefully introduce the next generation of public safety professionals to a meaningful career that they might not have thought of previously,” Miami Township Fire Chief Steve Kelly said.

The second internship is with Lykins Oil where four students are working thre hours a week in six different areas of the office: customer service, sales, dispatch, finance, information technology, and human resources. Each week the Lykins liaison for that department gives the students a challenge task. They also have an internship manual and weekly assignments/reflections.

“We want our students to graduate with soft skills and we want them to be career ready. I am a firm believer that career readiness is as important as college readiness,” said Milford High School teacher and Special Education Department Chair, Taryn Barker.

Magnolia Springs Seniors Partner with McCormick
McCormick Elementary teachers Jennie Johnson and Mary McMahon teach a social skills group and decided to put the group's new skills to the test by visiting the residents of Magnolia Springs, a senior living community next to the school.

Once assigned to a game table, our students set up the games and it was their job to explain to the residents how to play. In turn, one of the residents taught some students how to play pool.

“Our students were AMAZING! Watching them use the skills we have been working on with people they do not know was so rewarding. The kids did an awesome job of introducing themselves to the residents, and going over and talking to the adults without any prompting,” added Mrs. Johnson."It was truly an exhilarating experience for all of us.”

Milford Engineering Students Help 2-Year Old Gain Mobility
Milford High School students in the Project Lead the Way Engineering program have helped countless children over the years by using their engineering skills and creative problem solving to meet a variety of special needs.

Our students recently met Reid who is an active two-year-old who requires feeding tubes for nourishment. The large pole that holds the IV bags prevented him from being mobile.

Milford engineering students Mitchell and Catherine came up with a creative solution. They hacked a scooter and used PVC to create a special cart that can now hold two IV bags and pumps and allow Reid the mobility a two-year-old needs.
