Ashley McCormick, PharmD, BCPS
|
Dr. McCormick, of the Southeast Missouri Society of Hospital Pharmacy, attended the University of Missouri-Kansas City then completed PGY1 at Truman Medical Center- Hospital Hill in Kansas City and PGY2 Internal Medicine at the University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia. During her PGY2 interests analysis, she marked "neurology" as her second lowest interest. After residency, DR. McCormick was hired to build a service in the neurosciences intensive care unit of University of Missouri and fell in love with the subject and has been working in neurosciences ever since! She currently works as clinical pharmacy specialist in neurosciences and surgical services. She loves the ability to work closely as a multi-disciplinary team, making decisions that impact a patient's care, and working closely with medication safety. This allows Dr. McCormick to feel as though she's impacting pharmacy practice not only at an individual patient level, but an institutional level. She is the current president of SEMSHP and the practice and research network (PRN) central nervous system chair-elect with ACCP. Outside of work, she enjoys cooking, dancing, and singing with her toddler, spending time with her husband, and watching the Food Network and Friends reruns. She loves anything Marvel and the Kansas City Chiefs!

Joshua Brooks is a Pharmacy Systems Analyst at Truman Medical Centers-Hospital Hill. His role is primarily focused around ADCs (Automated Dispensing Cabinets) and the daily operation/maintenance associated with these. He loves being given an obscure issue that requires high-level thought processes and creative "out of the box" ideas to troubleshoot. In his free time he enjoys watching crime investigation shows, collecting WWE, Star Wars, and Funko Pop toys, following WWE Professional Wrestling, and keeping up with his Siberian Huskies.

We had a great turnout for this year’s Missouri Reception at the Midyear Clinical Conference in Anaheim. MSHP President Tony Huke welcomed the room and provided an overview of the chapter’s accomplishments, including progress towards mid-level practitioner status and drafted legislation outlining tech-check-tech and remote technician supervision programs. The state’s pharmacy schools were also invited to provide updates.

The University of Missouri – Kansas City’s Associate Dean, Paul Gubbins, noted a successful year for the school’s APhA-ASP chapter, impressive efforts in the National Business Plan Competition (2
nd
place!), and took a moment to celebrate the first graduating class for the Springfield campus. Dean Bruce Canaday of Saint Louis College of Pharmacy provided impressive accolades for the school as well, including the addition of four new bachelor programs, a new VP of Research, and an exciting expansion of international education opportunities in Dublin. Both schools reported impressive academic achievements and were well-represented in attendance at the reception. Awards were presented to the two winners of the Clinical Skills Competition. From STLCOP, students Allie Oxford and Alexander Spillars and from UMKC, Kaily Kurzweil and Michelle Sproat. Presentations ended with a suspenseful, technologically savvy unveiling of the new MSHP logo, which was created by MSHP member Allison King. MSHP swag was dispersed, heavy appetizers were indulged upon, and networking commenced for the remainder of the reception. Thank you to those who attended and celebrated another successful year for MSHP at this year’s conference.

MSHP 2019 Poster and Platform Presentation Guidelines
Submission Eligibility
All Missouri health-systems pharmacy practitioners, including pharmacists, pharmacy residents, pharmacy technicians, and pharmacy students are invited to submit projects for consideration. If a student is listed as the submitting author for an original presentation, the poster will be eligible for the student award.
The submitting author should present the poster; however, if legitimate circumstances do not permit attendance at the meeting; another pharmacy professional author for that poster may present during the poster exhibit session at the Spring Meeting. All poster presenters
must be registered
for the Spring Meeting and complete ACPE required documents as requested, if the posters are accredited for continuing pharmacy education credit.
Poster Categories
- Original Research: To be considered for acceptance, papers must describe original research in pharmacotherapeutics, clinical pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, practice innovations in organized health-care settings, administrative practice or cost analysis of pharmaceutical services. Paper must not have been published or presented elsewhere in complete form prior to presentation at the MSHP Spring Meeting, with the exception of resident or student research presentations at the ASHP MCM. Those projects previously presented/published without results and conclusions should be submitted as an original poster.
- Encore Research: This category is for research that has been presented elsewhere or published in complete form prior to the presentation at the 2019 ICHP/MSHP Spring Meeting. This would NOT include resident or student research presentations at the ASHP MCM. To be considered for acceptance, papers must describe original research in pharmacotherapeutics, clinical pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, practice innovations in organized health-care settings, administrative practice or cost analysis of pharmaceutical services. Posters or papers presented before January 1 of the previous year are not eligible. For example, posters or papers presented before January 1, 2018 are not eligible for 2019 submissions. Full results and conclusions must have been presented/published previously to qualify as an encore presentation. Those projects previously presented/published without results and conclusions should be submitted as an original poster.
- Research in Progress: Original research that is currently in progress. Those abstracts submitted as research in progress are expected to have results and conclusions available at the time of presentation during the Spring Meeting. Researchers will be expected to submit a finalized poster abstract, including Results and Conclusions, one week prior to Poster presentation date. Presenters will receive an email with the specific finalized abstract due date.
*Case reports and literature reviews are not eligible for poster submission. These types of research may be eligible for submission to MSHP’s Newsletter.
