Garland Names Chief of Police Finalists
City Manager Bryan Bradford has announced the following four finalists for the position of Chief of Police (listed in alphabetical order):
  • Jeff Bryan - Assistant Police Chief, Garland, TX
  • Charles René - Assistant Police Chief, Garland, TX
  • Ely Reyes - Assistant Police Chief, Austin, TX
  • Mark Schauer - Assistant Police Chief, Corpus Christi, TX
All of the finalists possess a wealth of diverse experience, demonstrated career stability and strong leadership qualities that will continue the success of Garland Police Department.  The City will conduct a formal candidate review process on Thursday, Feb. 7.

National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day: Jan. 9
Residents in Garland and throughout the nation are encouraged to make a special effort to show their support for local police on Wednesday, Jan. 9.

This year's Sweetheart Dance is set for Saturday, Feb. 2, at The Atrium at the Granville Arts Center in Downtown Garland.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration: Jan. 19 and 20
The NAACP-Garland will host its 30th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day Parade at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, f ollowed by a special MLK Commemorative Program at the Granville Arts Center, 300 N. Fifth St.
 
The weekend celebration will continue Sunday, Jan. 20, with the 2019  Garland MLK Youth Extravaganza at 4 p.m.

Garland's Transfer Station Now Open
Garland's Transfer Station, located at 1434 Commerce St., has reopened following the completion of repairs.
