WestShore Plaza owner Washington Prime Group is asking the City of Tampa to rezone the property to make way for a massive redevelopment on the northeast corner of the property. Redevelopment plans include the Sears store and surface parking that stretches from south of Gray Street almost to Kennedy Boulevard. The total property will include 895,000 square feet of retail, which includes both street-level storefronts in the new buildings, a grocer and the existing mall. The following is a breakdown of proposed plans:
  • 200,000 square feet of office
  • 120,000 square feet of medical office
  • 1,126 multifamily residential dwelling units - including both condominiums and apartments in mid-rise and high-rise buildings
  • 240 hotel rooms

Keating Resources sold Westshore Logistics Center for $16.3 million to Atlanta-based Equitable Real Estate Partners for more than three times what the group paid for it in 2017. The site is located near Tampa International Airport and includes four buildings totaling 140,000 square feet of industrial space. The property is 100 percent leased to several tenants, including XPO Logistics, Baystone Tile, Vitamin Discount Center, CAE, Mancini Cos. and Shriner Hospitals. MORE

At full build out, there would be a hotel, an office building, an option for a second building, and connections to regional trail networks. Start date for the project is this month with the majority of the completion being done by May 2020.  MORE

Westshore transportation plans took off in 2018
2018 was the Year of Transportation for the Westshore Alliance. From the opening of Tampa International Airport's SkyConnect to the Westshore Transportation Action Plan, all modes of transportation in Westshore were improved last year. For a recap, check out our Transportation Year in Review.

If you're an Alliance member and want to join our efforts to advocate for transportation improvements in Westshore and across Tampa Bay, join our Transportation Committee. The committee's first meeting was on January 9, but membership is open to members all year. Contact Michael Maurino for more information.
Westshore Interchange gains support as regional priority
The Westshore Interchange is a transportation bottleneck and should be a regional priority. That was the message delivered by the Alliance, other business groups, and FDOT to elected officials in December. The Hillsborough MPO, HART, and TBARTA communicated their support for rebuilding the interchange following statements of support from the business community.

FDOT District 7 Secretary David Gwynn presented an update on the Westshore Interchange and interim improvements at the Alliance's January Transportation Committee meeting. View the full presentation.

Rebuilding the interchange adds capacity to the interstate corridor and reconnects three local streets. The effect is a more efficient interstate and street network that serves drivers, pedestrians, and transit users. Visit FDOT's Westshore Interchange project page for more information.
More than 60 pedestrian projects featured in Westshore Alliance Action Plan
Bicycle boulevards, trails, sidewalks, and linear parks are topping the list of transportation priorities included in Westshore Alliance's newly published Transportation Action Plan. More than 100 transportation improvements that Westshore residents and businesses will need in the next 25 years are identified in the plan. Pedestrian improvements throughout Westshore account for more than 60% of these projects. MORE
FDOT District 7 Work Program released
Several Westshore projects are included in the FDOT District 7 Work Program that was released in December. The tentative 2020-2024 work program is the 5-year plan for funding FDOT projects. Projects in the first year (2019/20) include new traffic signals, starting the new Howard Frankland Bridge, and projects at Tampa International Airport. Construction on improvements to Interstate 275 and State Road 60 / Veterans Expressway will begin in 2019.
Bike Share Program at Rocky Point
Employees of Island Center, Rocky Point Centre and Waterford Plaza have a new bike share option thanks to Parmenter and Zagster. Tenant employees can download the bike share app to become a member and check out a bike at one of the Zagster stations located at their office building. Details here.
