Here are 5 Pet Friendly Ideas
Pets are good for you and help improve human lives in so many ways.

“Pets are part of our everyday lives and part of our families. They provide us with companionship but also with emotional support, reduce our stress levels, sense of loneliness and help us to increase our social activities and add to a child's self-esteem and positive emotional development.”

So why would we ban pets in apartments when there are so many great ways to mitigate against the wear and tear of pets?

Here is how I will solve the problem by showing pet friendly flooring material from real projects I’ve done for pet owners.
Pet Friendly Idea #1 for wood flooring lovers
Real wood floors get very scarred and marred but you can do a couple things if you love wood:

A hand scraped look already has dents and grooves that make for a worry-less surface where more dents and scratches just add to it.

A flat mat or oiled finish shows the least scratches and can be easily touched up.
Mia the Shelty is seen here relaxing on her new matt finished oak floor.

We’ve also specified a wide plank laminate floor with a Swedish oak look with knots for a busy family home to provide easy and wood at a low price.
Pet Friendly Idea #2
This home has three fluffy white Pomeranians living there. These porcelain wood-look tile planks were chosen. They are ultra easy maintaince and warm up against all the granite floors throughout the rest of the home.

It will never scratch from paws and claws and it has a very realistic wood look and evokes a feeling of warmth and elegance.
Pet Friendly Idea #3
This Gastown loft style apartment building has bikes and dogs so we handled the flooring situation with a modular carpet that has a diagonal line thru it to play down marks in the long corridor.
The carpet life is improved with regular vacuuming and cleaning but with tough stains occurring regularly, we just REPLACE the damaged carpet square. Just lift and re-glue a new one. The floor is worry free and has a built in anti-bacterial property as well.
Pet Friendly Idea #4
This photo shows three completely different styles for three pet owners, all in the same pet friendly west end apartment building.

Top left shows a pet friendly porcelain floor in a beachy sandy finish that hides everyday mars and yet looks clean all the time.

Right shows an earthy porcelain floor that was chosen to work with a family with two pretty furry cats where I used a dazzling dark tile on the floor to hide fur.
With all the light coming from the skylight above, white glazed tiles and the glass accent tiles, the bathroom has a natural spa feel.

Lastly, shown on the bottom left, this French glam inspired condo is home to a pretty pug -Lucy. The floor is a cemented grey barnwood plank tile floor. Meals and spills can make their mess all over this easy clean surface stress free.
Pet Friendly Idea #5
This project shows you do not need dark coloured flooring for pets. We used an easy clean alabaster porcelain floor with a super textured grizzly matt at the door. I designed the entry with two walk off mats to ensure a complete removal of leaves and things at the door. Walk off mats are essential and greatly reduce the amount of dirt and outside debris getting into the hallway carpets.
I hope you will share these ideas with your neighbours, strata councils and your family to help make more homes where people can live with their pets happily and in harmony.
