FROM THE CHAIR
One of the biggest honors someone in our industry can achieve is to be named to the California Homebuilding Hall of Fame. This year, I'm especially pleased that one of the honorees is one of North State's own -- Larry D. Kelley with LDK Ventures.

Larry D. Kelley
Larry as most of you know has been involved in real estate for more than 45 years. Among his biggest projects were developing Rocklin's Stanford Ranch and more recently developing the successful adaptive reuse plan for McClellan Park, which converted the old Air Force base into a successful development that includes more than 8.5 million square feet of commercial space.

He and his team also own and are developing the Railyards in downtown Sacramento, a 200-acre project that will include 6,000 infill homes and apartments and 5 million square feet of office and commercial space, including a new Kaiser Permanente Medical Center.

I hope you will join me at the 34th annual Hall of Fame Dinner to salute Larry and the other honorees -- David Carlson, F. Scott Jackson, Michael P. Neal, and Anthony F. Souza. The event, sponsored by the California Homebuilding Foundation, will be held in conjunction with PCBC on Tuesday, June 26, at the Westin St. Francis Hotel in San Francisco.

THE BIG DAY OF GIVING
Contribute to HomeAid Sacramento, Building Industry Foundation
For the sixth straight year, Sacramento-area residents will be asked to contribute to an area non-profit on the Big Day of Giving, which this year will be May 3. Organized by the Sacramento Region Community Foundation, more than 600 organizations will be participating -- including our very own affiliated charities, HomeAid Sacramento and the Building Industry Foundation.

HomeAid builds new lives for the region's homeless families and individuals through housing development, advocacy, and community outreach. To give to HomeAid, click here

For 11 years, NSBIF has provided struggling young people with training, support, and jobs --  preferably in the construction industry. Help us help youth and young adults become tax payers instead of tax takers. To donate to the Foundation, click here.

Last year, 35,000 donations totaling $7.2 million were given on the Big Day of Giving, and organizers expect an even bigger participation this year. If you would like to give to charities in addition to HomeAid and the Foundation, doing so is easy. Just visit the Big Day of Giving website  to find a charity or charities you would like to contribute to. And if you don't want to wait until Thursday, you can make your contribution in advance.

Thank you  for your continued support of HomeAid and the Building Industry Foundation!

About 80 of our members and college students/young professionals made connections and learned more about each other at this month's Idea District event. BUILDING INDUSTRY FOUNDATION
Adult, High School Hiring Events a Success
Some of the high school students who found jobs at the NSBIF job fair.
The 4th annual Skilled Trades Job Fair, hosted by the North State Building Industry Foundation on April 21st was a great success. High-quality job seekers came face-to-face with 32 employers and training organizations to discuss the great opportunities our industry has to offer.

As a bonus to the adult job fair, NSBIF hosted 17 employers looking to hire graduating high school seniors into entry-level trades positions. Sixty students participated, including 13 seniors who participated in trades internships as juniors last summer. In all, 57 students walked away with jobs that afternoon and the other three are pending offers!

Thank you to all of the exhibitors and BIA members who helped make the event a great day for hiring, and thank you to our event sponsors, the Sacramento Area Sewer District and Fletcher Plumbing.
