COMMUNITY NEWS
Jan.17, 18, 19. The Eastern Middle School 8th Grade Show Chorus will perform the musical "Annie".
Show times are: Jan 17th at 4:30pm. and Jan.18th and 19th at 7:30pm. Tickets are sold in the main lobby of the school beginning on January 10th everyday from 7:15 to 7:45. Ticket reservations can be made via email by contacting Mrs. Tara Hoffman

Dear Parents,
We hope everyone is staying warm during these colder days! We have a variety of events coming up this winter. Many of our 4th and 5th graders have been working hard in rehearsals to prepare for this year's winter musical Peter Pan. Thank you to all the volunteer parents and staff that are working tirelessly to make this year's show a success!

SAFETY VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!
We continue to need Safety Duty volunteers each morning from 8:30am-8:45am
to help with the drop-off process to ensure kids are getting out safely and to keep the flow of cars moving smoothly. Please sign up via our

Also, everyone should take a moment to read the "
Rules of the Road
" as a reminder about the protocols for drop off and pick up. The goal is to keep our kids safe! All parents and any other caregivers who handle drop off or pick up for your child should review this.

KIDS HELPING KIDS IN GREENWICH
Join Riverside School in giving back to our community this January.

to make dinner for the residents at Kids In Crisis. Meals should serve 14-16 people and be dropped off by 5 pm in Cos Cob at KIC. Get your kids involved in planning and making the meal! Questions?

CALLING ALL 4TH AND 5TH GRADE STUDENTS - BEE CONTEST!
Consider being part of the National Geographic Bee,
a nationwide contest sponsored by the National Geographic Society that will be held at Riverside on January 22th and 24th from 3:20 to 4:20 (Snow date is January 28th).
The Spelling Bee is designed to encourage the study of geography. The Connecticut State Bee is scheduled for March 29
, 2019 and the national Bee will be held in Washington, D.C. in May. First place prize is a $25,000 college scholarship and a trip to the Galápagos Islands - plus other prizes.
Students need to turn in a
permission form to participate in this year's Bee. Forms are due by Monday, January 14th and can be returned to the envelope outside Ms. Arbulu's door (U-10).
If you have further questions, you can reach out to Ms. Arbulu, Mrs. Mann, or Mrs. Crawford who are running the geographic bee this year.

PERSONALIZED LEARNING AT RIVERSIDE
Personalized Learning, Playlists, Student Goal Setting, Student Voice and Choice - Have you heard these terms and wondered what they mean and how they are used in your child's classroom?
Please join us January 22nd from 2:00-3:00pm in the Media Center for a parent session about the rollout of personalized learning at Riverside. Come and learn from a number of teachers implementing personalized learning in their classrooms. They will share what they are doing and answer parent questions.
The session that was originally planned for this time - Familiarize Yourself with Our School's Research Tools and Databases, will be held Tuesday, February 26th.

MAGNET PROGRAM OPEN HOUSE INFORMATION
The Greenwich Public Schools (GPS) are proud to offer choice to the families of Greenwich that may wish to apply to any of the District's four elementary magnet schools and one middle school magnet program:

International Baccalaureate
- Julian Curtiss School - World Languages
- New Lebanon School - International Baccalaureate
- Western Middle School - Theme Pending
The GPS Magnet Schools have scheduled Open Houses throughout January 2019 for families interested in learning more about each program and the application process.

The new New Lebanon School facility, the District's first 'next generation' school facility will be opening this school year and will be providing additional magnet seats for the 2019-2020 school year.
