Hello Connected Riders

Prep your horse's back
for weight bearing

by Peggy Cummings

At the core of Connected Riding ® work is the synchronization of the movements between the horse and those of the rider.

This is not a small job because we must learn to recognize and then to diminish all forms of bracing in both partners. Therein lies the key to a good biomechanically healthy partnership with your horse through time.

Relaxation and releasing bracing patterns in both horse and rider is the first step;  however, strength of the topline and pushing from the hind end must be present.

The influence of the rider's posture is critical in developing tensile strength and building up the back. To accomplish this, the rider must be in neutral posture as much as possible.

Neutral pelvis is the place where your body automatically has independent use of arms and hips and legs. The body has the ability to recover quickly and the bones and joints have freedom to move so the rider is live weight on the horses back.

Dynamic rebalancing occurs, inviting the horse to reciprocate. Above all, a rider in neutral posture can override bracing.

Foundations of Function for
the Whole Horse.
by Diane J. Sept

[Diane is a Connected Riding Senior Instructor and Clinician who has worked with Peggy since 1990. She is also a senior IJA Gaited Dressage Judge and a member of Friends of Sound Horses (FOSH) ]

Gaited horse owners have long been told that shank bits, long toes, weighted shoes, cutback saddles, and action devices   can "correct" a horse's gait.

My philosophy is supported by the truth of the horses body, mind, and spirit--what allows the horse to function in balance,   comfort, and longevity.
Anything else is a momentary "fix" without positive changes.

A word from Peggy

"Diane is a dedicated educator who is extremely committed to her students' progress and to the the well-being of flat shod walking horses. I have the highest respect for her contributions to the horse world."

Freeing up and allowing the abilities of any horse, partly determined by genetics and breeding, to express itself is what   Connected Riding promotes.

I appreciate that Connected Riding asks us to take responsibility for ourselves and our horses.

SCRS Foundations of Function for the Whole Horse  is one course I offer through the School of Connected Riding. You can see the catalog listing  of this course in the example on page 4.

Please join us to learn more about the many aspects that support the healthy, happy, joyous part of our horse relationship.

"Diane has a wonderful sense of humor, but don't be fooled, she is very serious about horses. It is rare to find someone who has such a depth of equine knowledge, is excellent in teaching both the horse and rider, and allows her expert evaluations and instruction to be fun."

What's Hot!

A t the start of her career...
Immerse Yourself
in a Summer Connection
as a teenage riding instructor Peggy was the head riding instructor of a girl's camp in Maine.

Peggy and friends in the 1960s

Corvallis, Oregon:

...........................................................................

Now, a few years later, Peggy is offering two summer riding camps in Oregon.  These camps allow learning to seep in through immersion where time seems to slow down and the focus is easier.

In this casual atmosphere campers will snack on Powerpoints, body awareness exercises and intensive work with horses.  And the best part-- the work is tailor made to the group and the individuals who participate.

Each camp has its own personality, pacing and experiences.
3-DAY SUMMER RIDING CAMP
with Peggy Cummings

June 15-17, 2018
Dayton, Oregon

Bring your horse for 3 days of learning through riding, groundwork, group discussions and camaraderie! This camp experience offers an opportunity for more individualized instruction to deepen horse-human learning and relationships.

All disciplines are welcome!
Riding instructors are also encouraged to join us at a Workshop specifically for instructors to learn how to add Connected Riding® concepts to your program.

Each of these shares the same outcome--a much deeper  connection with horses and the people who share the experience.

We are excited to spend part of our summer
with you.
