Open courses, customised training and consulting services available 2016 and 2017 training options in QLD, VIC, NSW, TAS, SA, NT, WA, and NZ
Open courses

We have several open courses left this year. Next month's 5-day course in Melbourne covers the full spectrum of HEC-RAS, from introductory 1D through advanced 1D and 2D applications. We also have a dam break course in Auckland in November.
Additional open courses are available for registration in Perth, Bendigo, and Adelaide.

If you have colleagues or contacts elsewhere across Australia or New Zealand with a potential interest in HEC-RAS, please pass along our registration of interest form. We will use the interest levels to plan our 2017 courses.

Customised courses

I would be happy to customise a course for your organisation.  Customised, in-house courses can be very cost-effective (hourly consulting fee only) and can maximise the return on the time invested by your staff by providing only the targeted content that is relevant to your organisation.

Customised courses could include dam breach, 1D bridge elements, floodplain risk assessments, water quality studies, sediment transport, bank erosion modelling, development impacts, WSUD, hydraulic structures, coastal and marine environments, TUFLOW model conversions, reviewing consultant deliverables, etc.

I will be holding customised courses in QLD, NSW, and VIC in October and November and could fit in some customised training or consultation with your organisation during those visits.

Please e-mail me to discuss a proposal if there are additional topics you or your organisation may be interested in.

We have held a total of twelve courses so far in 2016 and wanted to thank those who have participated in our courses, submitted expressions of interest, or provided feedback.

The recent flood events in Victoria and South Australia highlight the need for ever improving flood predictions. See the article below for some very relevant warnings!

There are just a few chances left this year to enrol in open courses to learn 1D and 2D flood modelling in HEC-RAS. We invite you to further your career and expand your hydraulic modelling capabilities by enroling in one of our upcoming training courses or requesting a customised training proposal.

Please note: Updated continuing education guidelines encourage the use of a USI; previous course attendees can e-mail me a request for a course completion certificate including your USI.

Hydraulic Structures: The Wormhole Method

Many of our course attendees have requested additional details around hydraulic structures. If you have questions on how to add bridges or culverts to your 2D model, please e-mail me. One of our course attendees has come up with an ingenious workaround for including long culverts. I'm calling it the " Wormhole Method". Check it out and let me know what you think!
Timely Warnings

These SES posts stress the dangers of trying to cross floodways. How do our fixed bed models perform in trying to simulate these sorts of conditions? We are currently collecting expressions of interest for mobile boundary sediment transport courses with introductions to river mechanics and geomorphology. How much do we really know about what's going on below the surface? I wouldn't want to find out the hard way!
