Westland Receives Positive Audit Report
Westland, MI -  Westland city officials received a positive audit report during the Council study session on January 7, 2019.  Plante Moran auditors issued an unmodified opinion, the highest available, stating that the June 30, 2018 financial statements are fairly presented and accurately reflect the City's financial position.

The City maintained its General Fund's unassigned fund balance at approximately $5.6 million at June 30, 2018.  The City also complied with the requirements issued by the State of Michigan and received $1.4 million under the State's revenue sharing program. Cost containment efforts have continued, with nearly all departments coming in under budget for the year, while also showing a decrease in total outstanding bond debt of approximately $2.9 million.

"During the 2017-18 fiscal year, the City was able to reinvest more than $7.2 million on various capital improvements, including water & sewer line repairs and improvements, public safety vehicles and equipment, park improvements, ice arena improvements, and many others," commented Mayor Wild.  "We continue to look ahead in our financial forecasting and make fiscally responsible decisions for our City's residents and businesses."

In addition, Mayor Wild also announced that Westland's state mandated corrective action plans, which were approved by City Council and submitted  pursuant to Public Act 202 of 2017 for the MERS Pension Plan and the Westland Post-Employment Benefits Plans were approved by the Municipal Stability Board for the State of Michigan on December 27, 2018.   The City has 180 days to start implementing the plans, both of which are available on the city's website at www.cityofwestland.com.
