A very Happy New Year to all of you, and prayers for you all in 2019. It is so wonderful to welcome our students and staff back, and to see so many eager faces! I was fortunate to spend some of the break in Ireland with my family, as we celebrated the 60th birthday of my brother. What a blessing family is!

While we settle back into our routine, we anticipate Catholic Schools Week at the end of January. This is a week when we celebrate our mission as a Catholic School, and we will have several events that week. We will begin with an open house on Sunday, January 27 from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm. Please spread the word about our wonderful school and invite family and friends to join us!

Remember us, O God;
from age to age be our comforter.
You have given us the wonder of time,
blessings in days and nights, seasons and years.
Bless your children at the turning of the year
and fill the months ahead with the bright hope
that is ours in the coming of Christ.
You are our God, living and reigning, forever and ever.
Amen.

St. Ambrose School Children's Choir

If you have a child in grade 4 - 8 that is interested in joining  the St. Ambrose School Childre n's Choir there are openings that will be considered on a first come first serve basis. Because membership in the choir involves a major time commitment throughout the year for rehearsals and Masses, I would like both you and your child to decide whether he/she should join. Singing in the choir is a wonderful opportunity for your child to share in performing beautiful music and developing the skills of working with others to produce excellence. This process requires a positive attitude and outstanding efforts from its members. Therefore, there will be a probation period of one month to determine if a student should remain in the choir based on vocal ability and/or discipline. For more information on joining the choir, check out this flyer
Kindergarten Happenings

Kindergarten had a fun and busy time before winter break! They had a great Christmas party, which included decorating gingerbread houses with their 8th grade buddies and playing Christmas Bingo!

2019 MS-ISAC "Kids Safe Online" Poster Contest

silver-keyboard2.jpg Students in grades kindergarten through twelve are invited to participate in the Commonwealth of Virginia's Kids Safe Online Poster contest. The contest is sponsored by the Virginia Information Technologies Agency (VITA) in conjunction with the Multi-State Information Sharing and Analysis Center (MS-ISAC). This is a national contest which encourages our youth to use the Internet safely and securely. Please forward this information to the individuals in your school district that would be interested in this contest.   Educating our children about the rules of Internet safety will encourage them to make better decisions when posting pictures, videos and personal information online.

The top five winning posters from Virginia for each grade group (K-5, 6-8 and 9-12) will be submitted to the national Multi-State Cyber Security Awareness poster contest. MS ISAC will select a total of 13 winners to have their artwork displayed in the 2020 National Stay Safe Online Calendar which will be distributed throughout the country and used in campaigns to raise awareness among children of all ages about internet and computer safety. The top four submissions will also be made into posters promoting cybersecurity practices. The winning Virginia posters will be featured on our website.

Attached are the official rules, entry form and information regarding the poster topics and technical specifications.  More information can found at the MS ISAC website.  The link is listed below:

The deadline for poster entry forms and posters is midnight Jan. 11, 2019. Late entries will not be accepted. Winners will be notified by email. If you have questions or need assistance, please email  [email protected]

Special congratulations to one of our Virginia winning posters for being selected to be displayed on the front cover of the 2019 MS ISAC Cybersecurity Calendar.  Click here to read the press release.

From the Editor

Happy New Year! Please make sure to read the Buzz every week. There's a lot of great things in it. Also, turn in your submissions! Submissions are due by Mondays by 5pm. I accept submissions from teachers, staff, and parents. If you know of something interesting going on in our community, or want to give a shout out to someone at the school, I'd love to add it to the Buzz. I especially love pictures. Please contact Mrs. Rowley to make sure that we have permission to publish pictures of every student in the picture. Pictures need to be less than 5 MB. Thanks so much!
