LCUL Shares Results of Financial Literacy Survey

LCUL recently conducted a survey to collect data and information to show legislators and community leaders the extent to which credit unions advance financial literacy and decision-making.  These results will provide us with fuel for public awareness, advocacy, and related outreach efforts, particularly as we approach the state/national Governmental Affairs Conferences.

Approximately 43% of credit unions responded to the survey with the majority falling in the 100 million and above asset range. Based on survey responses, here are few statistics gathered:
  •  72% of survey participants offer or helped offer sessions for either adult members/non-members on topics related to financial literacy.
  • 62% of survey participants have someone on staff that has completed the FiCEP program and earned their Certified CU Financial Counselors (CCUFC) designation
  • 21% of survey participants make presentations to students (under age 18) either in the classroom or in the community.
  • 42% of survey participants award scholarships to students in their community
  • Credit Unions awarded over $100,000 in scholarships to students in their community in 2018.
  • 24% of survey participants offer a second chance checking account, while 42% offer a flexible small dollar loan to consumers for emergency cash needs.
We have designed a complimentary piece that shares results, outlines survey participant's initiatives and best practices. This visual will help us to quantify your efforts so we can share credit unions' overall impact with those who rely on numbers to measure success.
