The District offers excellent opportunities for television and film production. In addition to location permitting, the District offers a competitive Film, Television and Entertainment Rebate incentive as well as offering services that assists filmmakers with a wide range of media production support. The DC Entertainment Office continues to market the District as great locale for media production. 
 
DC is also home to an amazing network of professional associations that support film and video producers. Organizations like DC Film Alliance,  TIVA-DC and Women In Film & Video  continue to provide residents with access to networking opportunities, media education, training and job opportunities. The DC Entertainment Office encourages District filmmakers to explore some of the production resources that the city offers.
 
This month, Warner Bros Television & DC Entertainment brought an epic event to the nation's capital entitled "DC in D.C." The Martin Luther King Jr. weekend event featured the premiere of the CW network's "Black Lightning" - based on the first African-American DC Comics Super Hero to have his own stand-alone comic title.

Sundance Film Festival

The Sundance Film Festival, a program of the Sundance Institute, is the nation's largest independent film festival that takes place annually in Park City, Utah. The Festival is a showcase for new work from American and international independent filmmakers. Director Angie M. Gates attended the Sundance Film Festival this month where she networked with key entertainment industry decision-makers and marketed DC as a great location for film and media production.

Comic books, culture and entertainment merged in the landmark pop culture event, "DC in D.C." During the Martin Luther King, Jr. weekend, the Agency's Chief of Staff Derek Younger attended the screening of "Black Lightning," based on the first African-American DC Super Hero to have his own stand-alone comic title. Younger met with Warner Bros Television Group President & Chief Content Officer Peter Roth and discussed the District's Entertainment Rebate Fund and other opportunities for bringing Warner Bros. projects to the District.

Director Angie M. Gates and the DC Entertainment Office staff were on-hand to meet residents and community stakeholders at the 2nd Annual Economic Development Cluster Open House this month. The Open House featured a "DC Makers" section with local small businesses and artists along with a first-ever "Director's Corner," where Agency leadership met one-on-one with District residents. The DC Entertainment Office is pleased to recognize Carletta S. Hurt as the January 2018 Filmmaker of the Month. Hurt is a District-based film and television producer, education and youth empowerment advocate. She is also the recently elected President of Women in Film & Video of Washington, DC - a local organization dedicated to offering networking and professional advancement support for local women (and men) working in the media production industry.
