A WEEKLY CONVERSATION WITH THE PASTOR

Do not fear; for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine.   Isaiah 43:1
These are the words of the prophet, Isaiah, that will be read as part of our first reading this Sunday. We will also be reading the gospel text from Luke about Jesus' baptism. I have often quoted these words upon visiting people in the hospital and when reminding them of God's promise upon their lives in baptism. I treasure the words that follow as well, "When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you." It gives us the great gospel assurance that no matter what comes at us in life, GOD IS WITH US!
We will have an opportunity to remember our baptism during worship this Sunday. As we sing the song, Borning Cry, following the sermon, the congregation will be given the option to walk forward to the baptismal font at will to make a sign of remembrance, dipping one's fingers in the water, making the sign of the cross, or whatever is meaningful. This is a great way for us to begin the new calendar year, looking to God's Word of promise and affirming God's call to us in baptism.
There will be some important information coming to you over the next few weeks as Mission Council prepares to present our proposal for the 2019 Ministry Spending Plan (budget) at the upcoming annual congregational meeting. The time, date, and details will be forthcoming shortly. As we enter the church seasonal year known as the Sundays after Epiphany, may God continue to reveal his plan and purpose in our individual lives and through our ministry together.

See you in church!
