Scheduler Maximizer Update

The new, RWJBH system-wide electronic scheduling system for Outpatient services, excluding Same Day Surgery, went live January 22.

Scheduler Maximizer is the industry's leading healthcare scheduling platform.  When fully implemented, Scheduler Maximizer, will allow physicians and patients to schedule appointments and will include a self-scheduling app for mobile devices. We look forward to future enhancements of this system that will make access for patients and providers more convenient with centralized, health system-wide scheduling. In addition, the system will be able to send out an appointment reminder to the patient.

During the go-live transition, we appreciate your patience when scheduling outpatient services as we work to enhance the scheduling process for you and your patients'  convenience.

New Technology Introduced at Community Medical Center

To ensure our patients receive the best quality care possible, new technology has been introduced at Community Medical Center.
  • Mako, robotic arm-assisted technology, is now being utilized for joint replacement procedures.
  • A new linear accelerator has been brought online for radiation oncology patients.
  • Additionally, a new MRI was recently installed in Radiology. This will eliminate the need for the MRI trailer outside of the hospital.

New technology is constantly on the horizon and as it becomes available, we will critically review its benefits for the patients we serve. They deserve nothing less.

Medical Records Tip - Outpatient Surgical Procedures and Prenatal History and Physicals

Outpatient Surgical Procedures - If the History and Physical is not dictated on the day of surgery, it must contain an update stamp prior to surgery to be compliant with regulations.

Prenatal History and Physicals - Must contain an update stamp prior to surgery or delivery.
Clinical Documentation Tip of the Month

"How Important Is Documenting Present On Admission (POA)?"

With the evolving pay for performance health care environment, one of the major requirements from CMS is the Present On Admission status of the diagnoses the patient has:
  • The primary reason/Diagnosis/MS-DRG that is the "Why" the patient was admitted must be clearly documented as "Present on Admission" by the attending physician
  • If the physician does not document POA status, the condition/diagnosis can be considered as Not Present At Time Of Admission and can possibly be labeled as a hospital acquired condition
  • When documenting patient conditions, include the POA documentation to avoid clarifications, back end queries, and hospital acquired status on patient's conditions
