We just concluded the third quarter of 2018-2019 and the students will be away all this week on a well earned spring break. Classes will resume on schedule, Monday, March 25th.

Once we enter the month of April, we will move into the annual "testing season" including the upcoming FSA English Language Arts writing exam. Therefore, I wish all of our Bears a very safe and relaxing spring break so everyone comes back refreshed and set for the final nine weeks.

I am looking forward to seeing everyone back on campus on March 25th.

Special Recognition
CCHS student will be one of the first to enter the brand new program at Southeastern University!

Jolina Betancourt will be one of the first students in a new program to open in the fall at Southeastern University (Lakeland, FL). Students in this program even have the opportunity to live on campus in a dorm like typical college students.  As a student in this faith-based post-secondary transition program, she can receive a certificate of accomplishment and an industry credential in one of three fields - hospitality, healthcare or technology - over a four-year period on our campus. The program is based upon giving students the tools necessary for them to take college classes, obtain gainful employment and to live independently.

Talented Bears: Paper Sculpture Art Work
"Paper Sculptures Recycling Spaces 8"

This was our eighth year using any kind of paper as our main art material thereby helping the planet. One of the most immediate benefits of recycling is that you are saving money. By taking material you would normally just toss into the recycling bin mixed with only paper, cardboard, and glue you can transform it into a 3D art. We call this "Recycling Spaces" and the only rule is to use paper. As you can see here, the transformation is unique and mesmerizing!

Please come by and enjoy our 3D1 students' paper sculptures when on the campus!

2019 Music Performance Assessments

Two weekends ago, our band students represented CCHS at the District 08 Concert Music Performance Assessments held at Wekiva High School. We had two groups performing. Each group had to present onstage three pre-selected works, then prepare and perform an entirely new piece from sight.

Our advanced Sinfonia Orchestra received an overall rating of Superior, the highest rating possible. Our intermediate Overture-Concert Ensemble received an overall rating of Excellent. These are the top two ratings you can receive at this event.

We are very proud of all our students for their dedication and hard work. Go Bears!!!

~ Mr. Jimmy A. Gilliam, Jr., Director of Orchestras and Guitar

Bear Vital Signs

Monday's Motivational Moment!

ON REAL VALUE

A popular high school teacher started off her class by holding up a $20 bill. She asked, "Who would like this $20 bill?"

Twenty-one hands went up.

She said, "I am going to give this $20 to one of you but first, let me do this." She crumpled the bill up.

She then asked, "Who still wants it?"

All twenty-one hands went up again.

"Well," she replied, "What if I do this?" Then she dropped the bill on the floor and stomped on it with her shoe.

She picked it up, and showed it to the students. The bill was all crumpled and dirty.

"Now who still wants it?"

All the hands still went up.

"Class, I have just showed you a very important lesson. No matter what I did to the money, you still wanted it because it did not decrease in value. It was still worth $20. Sometimes in our lives, life crumples us and grinds us down. We make bad decisions or deal with poor circumstances. We can feel very sad. But no matter what has happened or what will happen, you will never lose your value. You are special . . . all of you . . . and don't ever forget it!"

Have a safe and relaxing Spring Break and please, take a little time out to read for pleasure!
