Mathnasium
http://www.mathnasium.com/arcadia
When math makes sense, kids leap way ahead - whether they started out far behind or already ahead in math. Our formula for teaching kids math, the Mathnasium Methodâ„¢ has transformed the way kids learn math for over a decade across 800+ centers in the US and Canada:
- We know how to teach your child math. Our specially trained math instructors will teach your child how to understand math in an individual setting - our unique approach enables us to effectively explain math concepts and lend a helping hand to every student. Our tutors foster a caring, encouraging environment that helps kids thrive and learn!
- We pinpoint your child's learning needs, meet them where they are, and take them where they need to go. Mathnasium instructors use our unique assessment process to determine (with great accuracy) exactly what each child knows and what they need to learn. Next, we design a customized learning plan for teaching the concepts the student needs to master. It doesn't stop there - our encouraging instructors continually check progress along the way to make sure kids truly understand and retain the concepts we've taught. The results are transformative - kids will see measurable changes in attitude, confidence, and school progress.
- We will help your child overcome homework frustration. Our instructors will also set aside time to provide homework help. We help kids understand the homework assignment so they feel better prepared to complete the work at home - underscoring their understanding of concepts and transforming homework frustration into a welcome challenge.

9th & 10th Graders Biology Students
This year, students will test online during their normally scheduled Biology time. It will not be a late start day as in years past.
Students will need
- School ID
-
Ear buds/headphones (no Bluetooth)
During the testing session, all electronic devices for both students and teachers inside the testing rooms will need to be completely POWERED OFF. We need to make sure that the Wi-Fi is used completely for the online testing process.
Students should be able to finish the test during their biology classes so it should not disrupt their other academics, however extra time will be afforded to any student who need it. Please encourage your student to do their best as their scores will impact our school's state accountability letter grade. LEARN MORE AND SEE TEST SAMPLES >>

AHS Student, Austin Suder, Wins NASA Competition
A new tool is heading to the International Space Station and it's all thanks to a student from Arcadia High School (attending ANLC before AHS).
It's call the Carabiner tool Clip and it was designed and built by 18-year-old Austin Suder from Scottsdale.
His winning design was for the 'Two for the Crew' Challenge put on by Future Engineers, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers Foundation, and help from NASA. The challenge asked students to invent a useful tool for astronauts living in space. Participants were asked to create a multifunctional object that combined two items into one to be 3D printed by astronauts on the ISS, and Austin's invention is it.

Hopi Student Gets Ball Rolling for Arizona State Dinosaur
March 16th, 2018 - 3TV/CBS 5
If you want to know anything about dinosaurs, 11-year-old Jax Weldon from Scottsdale is the one to ask.
"Ever since I was two, I have been obsessed with dinosaurs," said Jax, a student at Hopi Elementary School.
He is always ready to answer a dinosaur question, as our April Warneke found out when she asked Jax about the Sonorasaurus Thompsoni.
"Sonorasaurus Thompsoni was a herbivorous sauropod, that was about 50 feet tall, no wait," Jax corrects himself, "27 feet tall and 50 feet long. It had a long neck which allowed it to reach the top of the trees, which were an abundant food source, because no other animal could reach them."

SUSD Policy Changes Possible
March 13th, 2018 - Scottsdale Independent
The Scottsdale Unified School District Governing Board is eying policy changes to better review district contracts and meeting agendas, officials there say.
On Thursday, March 8, elected school leaders met at Mohave District Annex, 8500 E. Jackrabbit Road, to discuss a number of items, including board policy BDG and functions of the district attorney.
As the policy is now, the district attorney reports to the superintendent and to the Governing Board. The proposed amendments would require general counsel to report directly to the board.
