The City of Tucson has initiated its impact fee study update per state statute which requires an update every five years. The update will include the transportation, parks and public safety studies. Last fall, SAHBA was actively involved in the consultant selection process which chose Tishler-Bise, a nationally recognized impact fee consultant. This process will occur throughout the first half of 2019 with an anticipated adoption at the end of the year.
The first phase includes determining the methodology to be used and calculating population, jobs and housing projections. The second phase will include identifying necessary public infrastructure projects that will be funded by the study. Ideally, City staff and the consultant team will engage home builders in identifying key public infrastructure improvements that will facilitate new home construction over the next 5-10 years.
The final fee outcome will be determined by a number of factors. However, SAHBA will be engaged throughout the process to help ensure that the study adheres to state statute and that the fees are fair and equitable.
