RUSH Construction Project Highlight:

Life Support Facility - Kennedy Space Center, Florida

Completed in May, 2008, the Life Support Facility serves as the operation center for the Self Contained Atmospheric Protective Ensemble (SCAPE) procedures at the Kennedy Space Center. NASA's SCAPE suits are processed in this 22,000 square foot facility.

The $5.7 million dollar building is uniquely equipped with a monorail system to move the SCAPE suits throughout the various areas to be washed, dried, inspected, repaired and stored. The project also included site work, utilities, mechanical and electrical systems, as well as photovoltaic lighting in the parking areas.

Additionally, a "breathing air piping system" runs throughout the building. The Life Support Facility is the second project at the Kennedy Space Center to be designed and constructed to comply with the "U.S. Green Building Council's" Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED�) Rating System. This facility was approved for Silver Certification in early 2009.

RUSH's Paul Stewart

Meet Paul Stewart, Director of Safety and Quality

Paul Stewart, Director of Safety and Quality, just celebrated his 17-year anniversary at RUSH Construction. A trickster with a talent for cracking jokes, Paul can be counted on to find the humor in every situation. Married to the love of his life, Maureen, for 44 years, Paul lives in the moment and can't see himself anywhere else.

He describes his position at RUSH simply as "THE GLUE"; no doubt his co-workers know exactly what he means by that. Paul is a free spirit who wouldn't let himself stay employed at one place for so long if it wasn't where he felt he really belonged.

A favorite quote of Paul's, by singer/songwriter Bob Dylan, fits his life philosophy well. It goes: "A man is a success if he gets up in the morning and gets to bed at night, and in between does what he wants to do."

After 17 years at RUSH, Paul names the PAD "B" Water Tower at the Kennedy Space Center as his favorite project. "It was a great opportunity for us to show our real capabilities to do something out of the ordinary," says Paul. Stewart says he has the "perfect" job, and jokes that RUSH's ability to throw a good party is a top reason for staying with the company for so long. He describes RUSH as a real, upright, superlative, and humble company, demonstrating integrity and quality in each project they take on.
