Why Classes With a CZT are Valuable

We received this warm and wonderful letter from a CZT.

It is a good perspective on the value of taking a class with a CZT and . . . becoming a CZT

I am a Zentangle enthusiast, junkie, and believer! I want to document in a small way the journey I have taken to become this engaged Zentangle lover. I started my learning of Zentangle by using the internet to find patterns, to listen to videos on the subject and to learn the overall process. I loved it from the beginning.

But then . . . I took my first class from a CTZ (Certified Zentangle Teacher). Now, I was really loving it because this CZT not only taught me how to reproduce a tangle, utilize the step-outs and produce a nice finished picture, but she more importantly taught me to 'embrace the process'.

Then I was unbelievably fortunate to take four different classes taught by Rick, Maria, Martha and Molly at 1440 Multicultural Center in Scott's Valley. I also attended their CZT Training Seminar in Rhode Island.

Now that I have gotten this diverse training, I was able to step back and see what I was missing before receiving this live training.  I learned something very, very important to the process of Zentangle.  By using the internet, buying books, and practicing without learning the Zentangle Philosophy, I was missing the beauty, the value of enjoying the process and the healing that happens when you understand that the prize is not in the finished picture, the perfect following of step-outs, or the uniform, smooth lines that I felt needed to be performed.

The classes from my CZT and from the creators of the Zentangle Method taught me, instilled in my mind, and made me realize that the prize is to enjoy each and every stroke.  Love the mark you made whether it came out smooth, whether I shook a bit while drawing a line, whether I used inconsistent distances between my strokes, or even if I goofed and made a line backwards from what the pattern said to do.

In order to truly understand and enjoy the true beauty of the Zentangle Method, you want to learn and embrace the philosophy that every mark is a mark that should be enjoyed. I have learned that the finished product is wonderful and something I am proud of but the process of completing this work of art is the true accomplishment that I have been seeking since starting this journey.
