NEW MANUFACTURER MEMBER SPOTLIGHT

Here is a look at two manufacturers, Krampade and Sauce Toss, that recently joined the Hockey Dealers Association and are looking to work with hockey retailers.

Krampade

Krampade is a family-owned company with a revolutionary approach for muscle cramps that also enhance muscle performance and recovery. Sauce Toss

The basic concept of Sauce Toss is a bean bag toss game for hockey players, using a board, a large net, a smaller net, 8 pucks and hockey sticks (not included). A saucer pass is common in hockey and is used to raise the puck over a defenders' stick or body to a teammate.

Sauce Toss comes form the name "Sauce Pass" and "Bean Bag Toss" and it is the newest in tailgating with the twist to a favorite and skillful hockey pass. Sauce Toss is designed for all ages and can be used by players to hone their hockey skills. It can also be played anywhere - backyard, beach or in a parking lot before games.

FTC Cracks Down on Patriot Puck
Over "Made in America" Claims

The Federal Trade Commission cracked down on Patriot Puck over deceptive American-made claims. Hockey pucks advertised on the Patriot Puck website and in other areas online had claims which included "100 percent made in the USA,"  but its products were wholly imported from China.

Under terms of consent orders with New-York based Patriot Puck and its owner, it is prohibited from making misleading or deceptive statements and needs to meet certain criteria to use "Made in the USA" claims.


Report: A Look at High School
Apparel Sales in New Jersey

An investigative report by NJ.com explored the issues surrounding high school apparel in New Jersey. One athletic director called it "the wild, wild west" and the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association finance director referred to it as "chaos." The report also said some schools participating in the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) licensing program receive such a small amount of money they don't even cash their checks.

Three Tips for Youth Hockey Coaches

Montreal Canadiens' head coach Claude Julien provides Positive Coaching Alliance three pieces of advice all youth hockey coaches can benefit from hearing. Julien was also the  head coach of the Boston Bruins from 2007-2017 and led them to the 2011 Stanley Cup.

Poll: Hockey Most Expensive Extracurricular Kids' Activity in Canada

Hockey is the extracurricular activity putting the most financial strain on Canadian families, according to a recent poll. Ipsos for Global News found h ockey had the highest average annual cost at nearly $750 and swimming ($205), soccer ($212) and skating ($213) were at the bottom. Fifty-five percent of those surveyed felt a strain on their finances and 32 percent were using debt to take care of costs.

Ready to Try NHL?

Jacksonville Jaguars star defensive back Jalen Ramsey recently said he could make the NHL if he dedicated six months to training. A video showed Ramsey calling a local sporting goods store to ask if they had hockey equipment.

Player Evaluation

Artificial Intelligence is making an impact in how athletes are evaluated for current and potential future performance. Sean Durzi was not chosen in the 2017 NHL Draft despite analytics putting him in the top 40 players. This year, Durzi was taken in the second round and with the 52nd overall pick by the Toronto Maple Leafs.
 


HEALTH BEAT

New Concussion Guidelines for Children Developed by U.S. Government

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released guidelines after evaluating 25 years of scientific research on managing concussions in children. The CDC said most kids' symptoms clear up in one to three months.

The collaboration for the purchase of hockey equipment by U.S. hockey dealers between HDA, the National Sporting Goods Association (NSGA) and SDC (Sports Distributors of Canada) continues to grow.
