Consultation on Edible Cannabis Regulations 
 
Health Canada has launched a public consultation as it works to regulate edible cannabis products, as well as cannabis extracts and topicals. Under the Cannabis Act, these products will be permitted for sale by October 17, 2019. Interested local governments may submit feedback no later than February 20, 2019. Read more 
2017 Gas Tax Annual Expenditure Report  
 
The federal Gas Tax fund in British Columbia provides communities with stable, predictable funding for capital infrastructure and capacity building projects. Since 2005, UBCM has transferred over $2.3 billion of federal funding to communities across British Columbia who, in turn, have undertaken over 5,000 infrastructure and planning projects. A report on local government expenditures and outputs from the 2017 reporting year is now available. Read more 
Feedback Sought on Ride Hailing Services  
 
An all-party Select Standing Committee on Crown Corporations is conducting an inquiry into BC's transportation network services (ride hailing services) and is seeking input from interested parties. Read more 
PRIMECorp Board Seeks Representatives   
 
Nominations are being sought for two UBCM representatives on the PRIMECorp BC Board of Directors. Successful applicants shall be subject to approval by the Board. Nominations will be accepted by UBCM until 4:30 p.m. on January 30, 2018. Read more

Additional FireSmart Representative Workshops    
 
Due to the incredible amount of interest, there will be two additional Local FireSmart Representative Workshops offered in northern communities, in Smithers on April 10-11 and in Fort St. John on April 24-25. These sessions are filling up fast. Six other workshops scheduled in communities around the province are now full. 
Innovation in Social Service Delivery   
 
The Mission Outreach Support Team (MOST), supported by the District of Mission, was recently awarded a Premier's Award in the category of Leadership and Innovation. Read more
Coastal Forests Webinar Series   
 
The Ministry of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development will be hosting regionally focused webinars to engage coastal community leaders on forestry in BC. The webinars will provide participants with overviews of the Ministry's mandate, information on the forest sector and government's role and provide an avenue for discussion and feedback. Read more 
Feedback Requested on Provincial Asbestos Report    
 
The provincial government is seeking feedback on their report, Keeping Workers, the Public and the Environment Safe from Asbestos. This report provides recommendations to strengthen the regulation and enforcement of the safe use, handling, abatement and disposal of asbestos. Feedback may be submitted to the Ministry of Labour by February 15, 2019.
