Clearness Gathering information sessions. It’s the new year and lots of us are thinking about our intentions for the year. Time for a new job? Should I commit to this relationship? What do I want to do in my retirement? Clearness gatherings are a Quaker tradition in which a small group of friends gather to ask questions to help you get clearer about something important in your life. We’ve brought this tradition to All Souls because it supports our core belief that the Spark of the Divine is in each of us. When you gather a small group to ask open questions, you invite them to support you in your dialogue with your inner teachers. Come hear from people who’ve called clearness gatherings and learn how to call one yourself. Grab some coffee and join us 10 minutes after each service in the Longfellow Room.

Kumano Kodō Pilgrimage information session . In 2014, seven All Souls Heiwa Peace pilgrims extended their trip to hike Japan’s Kumano Kodō trails, one of two UNESCO World Heritage pilgrimage sites. Jim Williams is organizing a return trip just before Thanksgiving 2019. The hike, through beautiful and holy countryside, is fairly rigorous, but there will be some easier options, and some may spend time on their own in Kyoto. Contact Jim (jhwilliams2@gmail.com). 12:45 pm, library.

Fundraising Brainstorm . All Souls’ treasurer and interim executive director invite experienced fundraisers for a brainstorming session around developing a fund development plan. New business plan for a tenant? Grant writing plans with new nonprofits? Creating a sustainable, socially responsible church economy? For more information, contact executivedirector@allsouls.ws. Please stop by. 1:00-2:00 pm, Tupper Room.

A panel of speakers with experience in affordable housing development and asset management will talk about why rents are going so high, so quickly? in DC and elsewhere. RSVP on EventBrite . 1:00 pm in the Eaton Room.

Green Souls meeting. Interested in getting involved in environmental activism or community engagement across DC? We’ll discuss upcoming plans, including an interfaith panel on climate, selecting an Earth Day speaker, volunteering on urban farms, and composting at All Souls. Stop by to get engaged or just learn a little more about what Green Souls does. 1:00-2:00 pm, Classroom 5.

National Symphony Orchestra’s In Your Neighborhood program presents a FREE chamber music concert for all ages, featuring musicians James Nickel and Robert Rearden (horn), Julianna Nickel (flute), and Sophia Kim Cook (piano). Reception to follow. Sun., Jan. 13, 2 pm, Pierce Hall.

Opportunities
All Souls ESL (English as a Second Language) will start classes again on Feb. 10. Spring classes will meet Sundays 1:00-2:45 pm at the church through May 5. Interested adult students can register in person at All Souls any Sunday during class. If you are interested in volunteering to teach or tutor with the program, you must attend this mandatory volunteer training. Sun., Feb. 3, 11:00 am – 2:00 pm (after first service), Dining Room. In addition to welcoming new volunteer teachers, All Souls ESL is also looking for new volunteers to help run the program on Sunday afternoons and assist with outreach to students. Duties may include welcoming and registering new students, answering student questions about the program, coordinating flyer distribution, and working with the church. Leaders must commit to being on hand two Sundays per month. We are interested in developing a more multicultural leadership team, and we especially encourage Spanish speakers and non-native English speakers to volunteer for this administrative role. Please email all.souls.esl.dc@gmail.com with questions.
