Neal Shusterman
The follow up to the chilling Scythe. While Rowan has rejected Scythedom and actively hunts down corrupt Scythes, Citra has shouldered the responsibilities and tries to carry them out with compassion. New Books on Martin Luther King
A lovely picture book that shows key moments of King's life alongside the experiences of a modern class. As the students learn about him they discover how they can be inspired by him as they handle issues and justice in their own lives. Ages 4-8

The illustrations are as poetic as the words in this beautiful book focusing on the last months of King's life. Ages 9-12, but wonderful for anyone who loves poetry and beautiful books.

Martin Luther King III
A public figure, but also a father, here we have the man his family knew. Written by his son, one of King's four children featured in the famous 'I Have a Dream' speech. Ages 4-8

An updated version of a biography originally published in 1964, this is the work of a writer who was close to the King family. Completely revised and updated with colorful new illustrations.  Ages 8-12

A good new biographical reader featuring the milestones in King's life, for kids who are mostly reading on their own, with a little help here and there.

A new biographical reader focusing on the march on Washington in 1963. A good level for children who are starting to read on their own and a good way for them to learn about King.

Are you ready for our annual reading challenge?

Every January we pick something from a genre that we don't usually read. Why not read along? This year we have a fiction-reader taking on a challenging non-fiction book, a non-parent reading something from parenting and a voracious reader combing our shelves for a genre he hasn't read yet! We'll update you at the end of the month with our reviews. Let us know at [email protected] if you decide to join us!
