NEXEN Tire partnered with the Purple Heart Foundation to select a worthy recipient for their customized Dodge Challenger R/T 392 Scat Pack. NEXEN, whose color of choice also happens to be purple, worked with the foundation to find an American Hero to award their car to. Meet Retired Marine Corporal Steven Diaz, he was injured in 2005 by an IED explosion while serving in Iraq. The explosion and shrapnel caused Diaz multiple wounds and the loss of his left eye. While still recovering from his injuries which include PTSD, traumatic brain injury, and a seizure disorder, Diaz co-founded Hidden Wounds, an organization that helps “heroes battle the invisible war at home.” Way to go NEXEN!

This is good news for Cooper dealers. Cooper has implemented a Minimum Advertised Price (MAP) policy for online sellers. The idea is that they can punish online sellers for offering Cooper tires at too low of a price. They piloted this with the new AT3s and have added ST MAXX, HT3 and SRX. On February 1st CS5, G1, and STT Pros join the party. They say this applies only “to online advertised sellout price... we believe our MAP policy will help to stabilize and protect advertised prices in support of the Cooper brand value...” After some secret shopping I have to agree. About a month ago, I checked out the top 10 Discoverer AT3s on Tire Rack and Discount Tire sites. Surprise, surprise, they were both in compliance. Maybe we can all get along after all. They do want all Medallion dealers to visit
coopertire.channelsynch.com to register for access to the MAP portal. If you play along by registering you’ll know all the prices and procedures and I’m told there is even a cool little button you can press to turn in violators.

Not counting cards. Car counts.
Yep it’s January, which only leads to February... Whatever happened to the glory days of October and November? Who couldn’t use a better car count? Just in time, Bob Cooper (no relation) of Elite Worldwide, a consulting company dedicated to coaching auto shop owners how to be more profitable, comes up with his top 3 easy ways to increase car counts. Number 1. Handling phone calls better. He recommends proper training and then recording calls to make sure things are being handled well. Number 2. Call those customers that have recently declined repairs. On safety related repair he says to call them within one week. It doesn’t have to be ‘salesy’ but it should convey that you’re concerned. Number 3. Reach out to those old regular customers that you used to see, but haven't in a while. He suggests you say something like, “Do you mind if I ask, did we somehow drop the ball?” Bob says the answers will be priceless. In some cases you’ll hear that they bought a new car, then you can let them know you’re happy to service it as well. You might also hear that, yes your crew did drop the ball. Great time to apologize, make things right, offer a complimentary service to show that you mean it. Read the rest

Whatever happened to rock stars?
Funny things happen when you start talking with dealers about Falken. Often they are very surprised to see the list of original equipment fitments this brand has managed to find their way onto. Add to this list the Mercedes Benz G-Class. Yes, Falken is now O.E. on the official SUV of rap stars and oligarchs. Google a list of celebrities that drive a G-Class and you’ll see names like Clifford ‘T.I.’ Harris (rapper/actor) Matt Kemp ($160 million baseball contract) Kylie Jenner (famous for ummm?) Matthew Hagg (professional video game player - what has the world come to?) Anyway, these are obviously fabulous people that we should all want to emulate by making millions with hip careers, gliding about in G-Class SUVs, while rolling on Falken tires to parties that they’re paid to attend. Dodge Ram 1500
I didn’t have to google Dodge Ram to know what the heck it is. Some of my friends even drive them. They’re made in MICHIGAN. USA. Anyway, if you buy a 2019 Ram and spec it with the ‘4x4 off-road package’, you’ll be tooling through the mud on Falken WILDPEAK AT3W tires because they’ve earned the EXCLUSIVE O.E. contract. You get the point - this Falken company is for real.

Cuz we haven't given any away lately, let’s do it. Here’s an ad for my favorite vintage tire line ever. The venerable Formula 1 Super Stock! Oh how I lusted after these when I was a kid and didn’t even have a car to put them on...
