Nevada’s Big Give: 24 Hours of Giving to Homeless Pets at Nevada Humane Society

Most people who pass Ashanti’s kennel at Nevada Humane Society won’t notice her beautiful brown-and-black coat or her tall, but timid, stance. Instead, they’ll notice the intimidating scar stretching across her head, reaching from her ear to her eye.   Staring into Ashanti’s deep brown eye, you may be called to help – to do anything to give her a fighting chance at finding a home after all her trauma. Look no further than Nevada's Big Give this Thursday, March 21.

Nevada’s Big Give is 24 hours of unprecedented non-profit giving. All donations made during Nevada’s Big Give are sure to make a big difference in the lives of homeless pets – both big and small in size – like Ashanti, a 3-year-old dog looking for a little less action in her life. For the last two months, her world has been a revolving door of visits to our veterinary team. When she came arrived in January, her future was uncertain. A large gash left her skull exposed, a flap of skin hanging loose from her head. While what happened to her remains a mystery, Nevada Humane Society worked tirelessly to save Ashanti’s life. Nearly every day since her arrival, she’s been in the hands of a veterinarian to track her progress.

With the help of Sierra Veterinary Specialists, who performed the surgery, Ashanti’s wound has healed, and her recovery is well on its way. But first, Ashanti must undergo a second surgery – to repair her eye damaged in the accident. In the meantime, she's in a new home as part of Nevada Humane Society’s foster-to-adopt program, which allows us to continue medical treatment until Ashanti’s fully healed. Her second chance is thanks to Nevada Humane Society – and people like you.
