Crystal Packaging, Diversified Body & Paint Shop Locating Operations in Commerce City
Two companies have announced plans to move operations to Commerce City, bringing nearly 90 new jobs with them. Crystal Packaging, Inc., a specialty chemical and petroleum contract packager and private label manufacturer, is moving into a 70,000-square-foot facility on 7 acres at 9155 Boston Street. Included with the site acquisition was the purchase of an existing business which will continue to operate on the site as a co-tenant. The move brings 48 new jobs to Commerce City.
Also planning to move to the city is Diversified Body & Paint Shop, a family-owned and operated business specializing in custom repair and refinishing work for large vehicles. The company will purchase a 10-acre site at 9551 Willow Street to construct a new 50,000 square-foot facility, which will create 41 new jobs in the city over the next five years.

Sit-Down Restaurant Planned for Second Creek Marketplace
Residents and visitors will have a new gathering spot to enjoy meals with family, cheer on the Broncos, and even play a game of cornhole. The Little Pub Company, a family-owned Colorado company with 23 concepts across the Denver metropolitan area, plans to build a 3,500 square-foot restaurant and bar at the northeast corner of E. 104th Avenue and Chambers Road in the new Second Creek Marketplace development. Also set to feature a 1,500-square-foot, all-season patio, the restaurant will serve American-style food for lunch and dinner seven days a week. It is expected to open by fall 2019.

City Council Recognizes Manufacturers
Manufacturing Day is held annually on the first Friday in October to celebrate modern manufacturing and inspire future generations of manufacturers. City Council approved a proclamation on October 1 recognizing Manufacturing Day and the importance of the more than 100 manufacturing companies that call the city home.
Brett Burrough accepted the proclamation on behalf of
Birko Corporation and all manufacturing companies in the city. Birko Corporation has been manufacturing food safety solutions in the city for over 25 years. Also in attendance was Sumer Sorensen-Bain from
Manufacturer's EDGE, a manufacturing assistance center that supports manufacturers throughout the Metro Denver Area.

Additional Consulting Services Offered at Small Business Resource Center
The Colorado Minority Business Office (MBO) is partnering with the Commerce City Economic Development Division, the Colorado Small Business Development Center (SBDC) and Adelante Community Development to offer bilingual consulting services to minority, veteran, and woman-owned businesses. Specifically, the consultants provide information on available state, federal and local business certifications and their benefits. The MBO then advises business owners on how to market as a certified business when bidding for government contracts. Commerce City's Annual Sales Tax Seminar Coming
December 7
To help local businesses stay compliant and aware of how taxes are implemented/reported, Commerce City is holding its annual Sales Tax Seminar December 7 at the Civic Center, 7887 E. 60th Ave. Check-in begins at 9 a.m. and the seminar starts at 9:15. The forum covers a number of areas including: when to charge sales tax and what's taxable, implications of special charges and fees associated with sales tax, and how to document sales tax and tax-exempt transactions. Old Dominion Celebrates Completion of Five-Year Expansion and Renovation Project
Old Dominion Freight Line, Inc. (ODFL) held an open house and ribbon-cutting October 18 to celebrate the expansion and renovation of its Commerce City Service Center at 5601 Holly Street. Mayor Sean Ford, Mayor Pro Tem Rick Teter and Councilman Steve Davis were on hand to help celebrate. Old Dominion is a less-than-truckload (LTL) motor carrier providing regional, inter-regional and national LTL service and value-added logistics services.
Headquartered in Thomasville, North Carolina, the company owns 40 acres in Commerce City and employs more than 330 people with facilities that include 213 loading doors.

New Preschool Celebrates with Ribbon-Cutting
The Goddard School celebrated its recent opening at 15320 E. 103rd Place with a ribbon-cutting on October 19. Franchise co-owners Pradeep and Divya Goel hosted the event, with Mayor Sean Ford, Councilmen Benjamin Huseman and Steve Davis and representatives from the Commerce City Chamber of Commerce in attendance to help cut the ribbon.
A former elementary school teacher, Divya was inspired to open The Goddard School by her time educating fourth and fifth graders. The 8,600-square-foot preschool includes nine classrooms and two outdoor playgrounds. The school serves up to 140 children ages six weeks to six years and employs 20 faculty members.

Under Construction
Becknell Industrial is under construction on a 39-acre site in Nexus at DIA near E. 81st Avenue and Tower Road. The company is building a 540,800-square-foot industrial facility on the site, bringing more jobs and capital investment to the growing Tower Road corridor. Haier US Appliance Solutions, a Chinese company that recently bought GE Appliances, has leased a 351,520-square-foot space in the building and the remaining 189,280 square-feet will be available for lease.

Retail Corner
Dutch Brothers Coffee has submitted development plans for a new location in Second Creek Marketplace at the northeast corner of E. 104th Avenue and Chambers Road. The 824-square-foot coffee shop will serve local residents looking to grab a cup, and will include a drive thru for those wanting to do so on the go.
Santiago's Restaurant recently opened at 15330 E. 120th Place, located near the intersection of E. 120th Avenue and Chambers Road. Santiago's serves traditional Mexican fare, including breakfast burritos in the mornings, with both take-out and dine-in options. The restaurant is open Monday through Saturday from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.
