While above-average rainfall has improved climate conditions across the state and county, the effect of the multi-year drought on the City's water supplies has been extreme, and it may take several years to recover.

The County of Santa Barbara's website provides real-time hydrology information countywide. Peruse the site to see local rainfall accumulation, radar and satellite imagery, storm forecasts, historical rainfall charts and comparisons, stream gauges, and reservoir storage and capacity.

Each year, City staff go underground to walk the entire 3-mile span of the 107 year old Mission Tunnel, inspecting its condition. Mission Tunnel is one of two tunnels that bring water from reservoirs on the Santa Ynez River to the south coast. Learn about the annual inspection of Mission Tunnel in our video
