AN IMPORTANT BORDEN LETTER

Typed Letter, signed "R. L. Borden," dated Ottawa, August 26th, 1908, addressed to a Col. A. Audet, Montreal, written on House of Commons stationery. 27 lines on two 8 x 10 sheets, was folded now flat, first page with some toning mostly on right edge, otherwise very good condition.

A lengthy letter discussing Conservative Party strategy for the upcoming 1908 federal election.

Borden writes: "Dear Colonel Audet:/ Your letter of the 25th inst. is at hand. It is I needless to say that we are most anxious to win as many seats as possible in the Province of Quebec. There has never been/ any thought of ignoring that Province or endeavouring to win without it. It is not very helpful to refer to defeats of I the past. The main effort should be to accomplish more satis-factory results in the future. The youngmen [sic] both in the I district of Montreal and in the district of Quebec have I created a certain organization and in addition to this I there is the Executive of Montreal under the chairmanship of Sir  Alexandre Lacoste. It is useless for me to attempt to take charge of the organization in your Province. That is a / matter which must be left largely in the hands of the Conserva-/tives of that Province  ...  Click for more information and photos;
