Child Spotlight: Betty

The first thing you notice when meeting Betty is her beautiful smile! Julie remembers this smile from when she first met Betty on her second trip to Uganda.  In 2006 when they met, Julie was   meeting orphaned children selected by pastors for schooling. That was before they knew the only legitimate school was a government school which had no teachers! Betty lived a distance away, and walked a long distance beyond that to go to school. She was the only child they met that day who was going to school. It was heart breaking.

Betty now attends Ebeneezer school, is able to board on campus to avoid traveling long distances, and receives scholarship funds to help with the cost of schooling (thanks to the many generous HEED supporters!).

Betty is a leader and good example to her peers. She thanks God for HEED and Ebeneezer school, and is excited to start at the high school next school year. After high school, she hopes to work at a bank. We are so excited for Betty to continue her education with us, and can't wait to see what God has in store for her!
Project Update: Breaking Ground on the High School

We are so thrilled to announce construction has officially started on the high school! Our high school students have been meeting in temporary class rooms for four years, and have eagerly looked forward to the day they would have a "real school". The first building will have four classrooms, a lab, and a library. We have funds for the first building, and are actively praying for funds for the second building. We have 88 high school students who are very excited for the Lord's provision of this high school!
April Visit

By the time you read this, there will be a team of 13 HEED team members on the ground in Uganda for the spring trip. This is our largest team yet! Included in this group are several first-time visitors - but long-time HEED supporters!  Stephanie E. Stephanie H., and Rachel B. (and Lori T. who couldn't make the trip)  and their daughters have raised more than $15,000 for HEED over the past four years! We are so eager for them to visit the HEED campus and see how they have made an impact for the students and staff there. Also included on this trip are many repeat visitors, and we know the kids will be so happy to see some familiar faces arrive!

April's visit will be very busy! Team members hope to accomplish projects with the kids, provide preventive fluoride and anti-parisitic treatments, facilitate staff meetings and workshops, attend to bookkeeping, give ministry oversight, hold team meetings, and check-on the high school building project and along with other projects going on around campus. The highlight will be an outdoor movie night showing the Queen of Katwe, a Disney movie filmed in Uganda.

Meet Christopher

Christopher is the village chairman, PTA chairman, and was hired last October as our farming manager. In 2015, he was one of 30 villagers we took to a ministry called Connect Africa for training in permaculture farming. He enthusiastically implemented the trainings and has transformed his farm!
