This space is held specifically to process how white supremacy culture is toxic to white people. The hope is that this work help white people engage in collective liberation, rather then white savior behavior. FREE.

Thursday, January 17, 6-8pm, PJC.
This program is led by people of color, for people of color. It is a monthly gathering for POC to come together to share their experiences and explore their identities. You do not have had to attend previous meetings in order to come. FREE.

Facilitators will offer a brave space to explore what racism is, why it is often difficult for white communities and individuals to see it, and racial justice within Jeffersonville. FREE.
Participatory Cesar Chavez Play Monday, January 21, 10:30am at ECHO.
Celebrate MLK Day by learning and telling the story of Cesar Chavez, a leader who, like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., used the strategy of nonviolence in action to organize and build power with oppressed people. A fun play will be shared by children who can make signs, and/or perform. FREE.

for Aspiring Allies
Jan 29, Feb 5, 12, & 19, 6:30-8:30pm, St Michael's College, Colchester.
Increase your skills to effectively build support with colleagues, neighbors, and other community members to address racial oppression. Participants will explore their own identities and practice taking action to address microaggressions and interrupt oppression in real time. supported by the Civil Rights Alliance through the MOVE office at St. Mike's.

Screening of "Howard Zinn: You Can't be Neutral on a Moving Train" Sunday, February 10, 6-9pm at The Savoy Theater, 26 Main st, Montpelier.
This film looks at the life of the renowned historian, activist and author, Howard Zinn. Following his early days as a shipyard labor organizer and bombardier in World War II, Zinn became an academic rebel and leader of civil disobedience fighting against institutional racism and war. Screening followed by a Q&A with the films producers, Dennis Mueller and Deb Ellis. Tickets are suggested donation $5-$20. No one turned away for lack of funds. Tickets highly recommended, space is limited and priority will be given to people with tickets. Purchase your ticket here.

From the Blog: PJC Celebrates 40 Years of Vital Activism & Public Education

January 28, 2019 will mark the 40th birthday of the PJC! Very few organizations dedicated to building a more just, peaceful, and equitable world, globally and locally, live to 40; even fewer have been as vital to the health of their home locality and state over their life as the PJC. Yet here we are.
On January 28, 1979, the world faced a nuclear arms race: deployment of "usable" neutron bombs (that destroy people but leave buildings), short range "tactical" nuclear weapons to be used on European battlefields, mega-missiles launched from hundreds to thousands of miles away with the force of thousands of Hiroshima bombs. We were on the brink of global annihilation.

| Statement of Concern Regarding Antisemitism |
We are greatly concerned about the uptick of anti-semitic and other forms of hate crimes and violence in our country. We seek to ally with individuals, organizations, and congregations against these acts and towards a more just society.
Peace & Justice Center believes in human rights and dignity of all people. We support movements, and add our voices in solidarity, to groups who uphold this fundamental belief.
Actions (like joining the Boycott, Divest, and Sanction movement) that hold Israel accountable for acts of violence and oppression are not antisemitic, just like protesting police violence and human rights violations by the United States is neither anti-patriotic nor anti-police. Opposition to State acts of oppression by Israel are not the same as opposition to the the people of Israel and the Jewish diaspora. In fact, our society and others around the world are made more civil when people and organizations confront oppressive state actions.
In "Notes of a Native Son," James Baldwin said, "I love America more than any other country in the world and, exactly for this reason, I insist on the right to criticize her perpetually."

| Action Highlight: Join Justice For All's Call For Civilian Oversight of Law Enforcement |
I
t is imperative that civilian oversight be implemented to ensure appropriate law enforcement transparency and accountability. History has taught us that in the absence of law enforcement transparency and accountability the general public has more times than not questioned law enforcement legitimacy. We have all witnessed numerous instances where the resulting loss of public trust has stood as an obstacle to the crucial working relationship required between law enforcement and the community.
The issues at hand that require attention include use of force, failure to adapt the fair and impartial policing (FIPP) that is required by law as well as their failure to attend anti-bias training.
