This Sunday at Christ Church
Faith & Practice
Prayer and Discernment
God's greatest desire for us is that we become more and more what we were created to be as beloved children of God. Prayer and discernment go hand in hand: prayer draws us closer to God and brings us deeper knowledge of God and of ourselves so that we can more clearly hear God's call in our lives. The Rev. Stacy Alan will explore with us how these two practices are both (a) completely natural, and (b) skills that must be practiced. Stacy is chaplain of Brent House, the Episcopal Center at the University of Chicago. We are excited to welcome her as our guest preacher and Faith & Practice presenter this Sunday.
The Primary Choir Sings at 9:30 this Sunday!

Arrive on time so you do not miss our first and second grade singers.
CELEBRATE THE ARTISTS AMONG US!
Artwork will remain displayed and for sale through April 29.
Parish News
Hola from Colombia!!!

Just a quick note to tell you that I am alive and well, living in a suburb of Medellin.  I am in my third week of Spanish Immersion, which means I have been here long enough to begin to know what I don't know-which is a lot!  Both the school I am attending, Colombia Immersion, and the homestay family I am with could not be more hospitable. The people of Medellin are very proud of the recovery they have made over the last quarter century.  They are warm and welcoming.  There are very few Americans here, which is part of the reason I chose it.  Colombians welcome tourists though, and are very able to help a simple student who is learning about their language and culture.

The study of a new language from scratch has been challenging, but as hard as that is, it's not the biggest challenge I've faced.  The biggest difference for me is going from being Rector of a lively and complex parish system to essentially a child-like state where I am dependent on everyone else in order to make my way through the day. That's been a wonderful and helpful dynamic-to be stripped of any sense of, "I can do this by myself."  Clearly, I can't.  With the help of others, there is much that is possible. I hear the echoes of Jesus in my re-learning of that simple truth.

The picture above is of my friend Andres, who is a coach at the school.  We spent last Saturday using the new tram system that takes people up the mountain to a barrio that in 2004 was under the dual siege of violence and drug use.  The tram has been an instrument of hope as people can now travel to the city to work.  The views are remarkable.

Thank you for this sabbath from the day-to-day of parish life.  Just a short time in, I feel relaxed and energized.  I'd write more, but I have homework to complete!

With gratitude for my life with you,

PS.  It's true.  I'm the teacher's pet.  That's because my classes for now are one-on-one.
2040 VISION QUESTION:  Why is Christ Church Important to You?
Thank you to everyone and especially, Eric Hillenbrand, for an informative and dynamic Faith and Practice.  We truly appreciate everyone's input and perspective on the rise of secularism and the impact it has and will have on Christ Church.  We look forward to having other opportunities to share what the 2040 Committee is researching and discussing with the larger congregation.

To that point, we are introducing the "2040 Vision Questions" to spark discussion among the congregation, provide broad perspective and feedback to the 2040 Committee and identify other topics for future group presentations or discussions. Look for a 2040 Vision box in the Prevost Cloister and a Survey Monkey link.  We will post a question every two weeks to spark discussion.  Either provide your response in the box or via this LINK
.
Finally, please feel free to reach out to the 2040 CoChairs Peter Macey [email protected] or Molly Hufton  [email protected] if you would like to get more involved.  We currently have a need for a graphic designer.  Let us know if you can help.
We need SOUP-er Volunteers!
