If you have spent anytime cycling in Ontario, chances are you have already experienced some of the top trails and rides in southern Ontario and are looking to set your sights and spin your wheels on new routes. Why not make 2019 the year to ride the north, exploring more of northern Ontario by bike?

Late last year, Sea Otter Classic, one of the world's premier cycling festivals based out of Monterey, CA  announced a partnership with an Ontario-based group to launch Sea Otter Canada on June 4-7, 2019 in The Blue Mountains.

The 1st annual Sea Otter Canada Festival  will represent all of the same great aspects of the Classic, while also aiming to introduce some new events including a road team stage race, the Canadian Hill Climbing Championship and the Grind KOM. Over a dozen cycling events across all disciplines of cycling will be hosted over the four-day event, as well as an expo festival  featuring an estimated 200 cycling vendors including bike demos, activities for kids, entertainment and local craft breweries and food vendors.

This is going to be a can't-miss event in Ontario's cycling calendar!

Ontario's Best Bicycle Friendly Businesses

On March 1, Ontario By Bike / Transportation Options held its 4th Cycle Tourism Conference in Toronto. As part of the program, we hosted an inaugural Bicycle Friendly Business Awards selecting one Ontario By Bike certified bicycle friendly business from each of the 13 tourism regions in Ontario.

We'll be showcasing the 13 Best Bicycle Friendly Business Award winners throughout the year. Consider stopping in at one of these locations on your next cycling adventure in their region!

The owners of this restaurant / accommodation have actually certified a number of other businesses in Kingsville, Essex County and have created a cluster of services catering to cyclists including accommodations, cafes and restaurants and a brewery!

Forming a recreational bike club (yes, rides start/end at the brewery), offering free bikes to guests at the inn, supporting local cycling advocates and bike shops as well as creating routes and resources for local residents and visitors really solidify that they're one of the best bicycle friendly businesses in Ontario!
Yellow Door Bed & Breakfast

Located a short spin from the white sand of Crystal Beach and the 24km paved and off-road Friendship Trail, this quaint B&B in Niagara offers detailed cycling information, bike storage, complimentary metal water bottles and luggage transportation to other accommodations along 140km Greater Niagara Circle Route.

The owner, Diedre, understands the needs of cyclists offering a variety of complimentary services and has even driven a group of tired cyclists out to local restaurants after a long day of riding!

There are now over 1,500 bicycle friendly locations in Ontario, certified by Ontario By Bike. Check the full listing here
