NEW HAVEN WOMENS FLAGS OF PERSISTENCE SEND MESSAGES OF HOPE, UNITY
April 22, 2018, The New Haven Register, By Ed Stannard- "They flutter in the wind, waving to passers-by their words of positivity, unity and hope. They're small banners carrying weighty ideas, created by a loose-knit group of friends, mostly women from Westville, who use their artistic talents and their liberal sensibilities to express their frustrations and hopes that better days lie ahead. "I think when you're out in the world and you see a message that resonates and is beautiful, it both lifts up your convictions in a positive way, makes you know you're not alone in your convictions..." GOODNIGHT BLUE MOON'S NEW ALBUM SEES THE LIGHT
April 25, 2018, The New Haven Independent, by Brian Slattery- "Undertow," the f irst single from  Goodnight Blue Moon 's new album  Dawning Dream
announces the evolution of the band's sound right from the start. A hi-hat hisses for the drums to settle into the kind of rhythm Al Green might like. The bass throbs. "It's been a long time coming / I've been working overtime," the vocals croon. "The days keep passing by / See fireworks light the sky, so bright." A violin lays down a runway for a lead guitar to take off with a sparse melody, while another rhythm guitar adds in the planks from an old Motown record ..." GOODNIGHT BLUE MOON RECORD RELEASE SHOW @LYRIC HALL

Goodnight Blue Moon releases their new album, Dawning Dream, at Lyric Hall, on Friday, April 27th. Doors open at 7 pm, music begins at 8 pm. Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door on the day of the event.

Blending rich vocal harmonies with lush orchestrations, Goodnight Blue Moon has created a sound that is steeped in tradition, yet entirely current. GNBM is known for their energetic, honest, and dynamic live performances, offering a refreshing take on traditional Americana roots music.

J. Russell and the Split Coils are the current brain child of songwriter/ multi instrumentalist  J.Russell (Hot Rod Circuit, Diamond J and the Rough). Joined by his wife Katelyn Russell on percussion and harmony, Joseph Ballaro on Bass guitar and Jon Scerbo on Drums.

The songs (it's all about the songs) are a straight forward mix of Rock and Roll, Soul and Country. Independently recorded and produced at home. The Split Coils are in the process of finishing a record this summer (2017)

OPENING RECEPTION FOR GROUP SHOW @KEHLER LIDDELL GALLERY

Panel Discussion @ 2:00pm, followed by an Opening Reception from 3:00-6:00pm. Join us for the opening of "How with this Rage shall Beauty hold a Plea?"(Shakespeare)

Kehler Liddell Gallery (KLG) presents the 2nd annual juried show,  April 26th - May 27th, 2018  "What is the point of making beautiful things, or of cherishing the beauty of the past, when ugliness runs rampant?" asks Alex Ross in the 2017 New Yorker magazine article "Making Art in a Time of Rage." Ross later references a London gallery that, in the midst of World War II, prefaced the exhibition catalogue for Jacob Epstein's flower paintings with a quote from Shakespeare: "How with this rage shall beauty hold a plea?"  It's an age-old question. Are we as artists responsible for creating challenging works and addressing critical issues of our time head on? Are other expressions trite or selfish acts of escapism? Or can beauty be powerful? Can the act of creating beauty during a time of ugliness be a form of resistance in itself, offering a vision of all that humans can aspire to? Fifty-three artists offer responses to this question, ranging from abstract meditations to more realistic representations, in a wide variety of media.

Participating Artists: Alan Shulik, Amanda Walker, Alison Kudlow, Ana Henriques, Brian Flinn, Desmond Ambrose, Dionne Pia, Don Wunderlee, Douglas Deveny, Eric March, Erik Durant, Frank Bruckmann, Hank Paper, Hilary Opperman, Hong Hong, Irene Miller, Jackie Heitchue, Jacqueline Dee Parker, Jasper Farish, Jean Perkins, Jeanette Compton, Jennifer Brubacher, Joan Jacobson-Zamore, Joan Wheeler, Joe Fekieta, Joe Saccio, Julie Fraenkel, Kate Henderson, Katherine Jackson, Kim Weston, Kwadwo Adae, Laurie Grace, Leila Daw, Linda Lindroth, Liz Alpert Fay, Mark St. Mary, McKenzie Chapman, Missy Stevens, Molly Gambardella, Nina Chung, Patty Weise, Paul Berger, Penrhyn Cook, Robert Bienstock, Ricardo Dominguez, Rod Cook, Roy Money, Scott Schuldt, Sheldon Krevit, Stephanie Blumenthal, Steven Licardi, Warda Geismar, Zoe Matthiessen

The panel discussion on Sunday, April 29th @ 2pm is presented by ArtEcon Initiative and will focus on the central question of the exhibition. Moderated by Lucy Gellman, Editor of The Arts Paper, panelists include artists: Luciana McClure (Nasty Women CT), Ted Efremoff (Professor of Social Practice in Art at Central CT State University), and Kwadwo Adae (Adae Fine Art Academy).

VOLUNTEER FOR GOAT DUTY WITH FRIENDS OF EDGEWOOD PARK!

You may have heard FOEP's good news - they are bringing goats to the park this year!

FOEP would love to involve the community in this creative and responsible means to enhance the access, services, and ecology of Edgewood Park. We have several roles for a variety of skillsets and time allotments. The top items are near-term priorities.
  • Installing/Removing fence- This is a physical labor task. We need to move 50" high fencing sections from one or two loading areas, near the tennis courts. The fencing will stretch to the river and to the stormwater management area along Yale Ave. See here for more details. A date is not selected, but it will be a Saturday or weekday for ~4hrs before May 7.
  • Providing fresh water Every day, goats need fresh water to drink. Edgewood Park has a spigot at the water fountain near the gazebo/tennis courts. The bucket(s) for the goats will be placed in the same place, every time, inside the gate.
  • Signage We will be creating educational and instructional signs. The construction of the sign is TBD, but we imagine the mounting, posting, and building/routering/finishing might be areas for trades-persons. The content and images are best suited for experts in education, environmental issues, graphic design.
  • Taking pictures of progress We want to learn about the progress in the goats eating invasive plants. We want to capture pictures of the areas, from designated locations, throughout the entire period. We have selected areas to photograph and upload Google Photos and Instagram/Facebook.
  • Check the integrity of the fence Every three (3) days, a person needs to walk along the entire perimeter of the fencing. The person needs to notify this email address ([email protected]) if there exists any vandalism, breakage, or opening in the fence, (examples: trees that may have fallen, someone opened or broke fence).
  • Donate to the cause by April 28!
  • Planting native plants, post-remediation.
Simply reply to [email protected] to "count you in" and explain areas where you can share your time and talents. Full details HERE
